Robert Ralf Keintzel studied medicine at the University of Ulm. In addition to his studies, he completed the Certified Science Training at the Charité Berlin and expanded his medical knowledge at the Sanitätsakademie der Bundeswehr in Munich. Already during his studies, the author worked at the University Hospital Ulm and the Bundeswehr Hospital Ulm. During his practical work, Mr Keintzel had contact with people living with a disability. These formative experiences led to the decision to deepen his knowledge by studying special education and history. Currently, Mr Keintzel works as a special education teacher near Zurich and supports pupils here. The author is involved in the field of inclusion on a voluntary basis, including with great success as a coach at the 2020 Winter Olympics for people with intellectual disabilities. During this time, the idea matured in him to research the history of vulnerable groups and of people with disabilities. Robert Ralf Keintzel was awarded by the Federal Republic of Germany, the federal states of Bavaria and Saxony-Anhalt for his humanitarian aid during the flood disaster in Germany in 2013. His studies of special needs education were supported by the Hanns Seidel Foundation's scholarship for gifted students. Furthermore, in recognition of his remarkable contributions to German society, the author was awarded the scholarship of the Deutschlandstiftung Integration by the former Federal President Christian Wulf in 2019.
