Male Prostitution exists. It is not called by that name, but the attributes are unquestioned. Males sell themselves to females, in this case, female tourists. This is not ad hoc or occasional, this is an industry. It is known to those who operate Hotels in the Caribbean and in some cases, accepted, in others, ignored.

PROLOGUE
Male prostitution has existed as long as female prostitution. It is called by different names, often cleansed by deceptions, but it is prostitution.
It is selling one's body to another. It is conforming to the demands of the puchaser.
Where female prostitution gains derision, male prostitutes often glide through life riding their benefactors. One doesn't pass remarks publicly, perhaps a sotto voce whisper to a cohort, but the man is not a figure of contempt.
Where a young woman marries a much older, much richer man, the term 'gold digger' comes to mind. The worst that would be said about the man who has sold himself to an older, richer woman, is a 'toy boy'.
He may get arch stares, but not glares, he might even be considered clever to use his body to raise his status. Unlike the woman, who does the same, but is sneered at.
Going back a few hundred years we see the term 'protege' which is not at all derogatory, applied to that young man playing court to the older woman who introduces him to society.
The older man who collects a young woman does not have a protoge but a prostitute and he does not introduce her into society. She exists for his use and is kept home with his bed.
The male prostitute exists to please the woman who purchases him. Sex may or may not be required, but his attention and compliance is. He is to dress and behave as she demands. Any rebellion is punished by exile.
In Italy, after World War II, many foreign women arrived to take advantage of the low costs of living and collected what are called gigolos. Gigolos are defined as a young man paid by an older woman to be her escort or lover.
The term gigolo is not said with contempt.
The impoverished woman who was taken up by a man, was and is, of course, a prostitute to be treated as beneath contempt.
In the Caribbean, (as well as other parts of the world, I am sure) there are particular versions of male prostitutes.
I will deal with the Beach Bum, the Rentadread and the Bungaboy.
These are men who sell themselves most often to white foreign women, although some are locally purchased.
