"Ed, you gotta sober up" Lucky said slowly, partially kneeled in front of Ed as he sat on the sofa his patience was being tested. "We can't stay here much longer, we're out of food, water. Hell the only thing we do have is misery. I am not going to wait here and die, we have to make a move like now fucking now!"
Even through his drunkenness Ed realized Lucky was right. Struggling to his feet he tried vainly to steady himself before falling back onto the couch. "Ok ok'" he slurred the words waving his hand at lucky. Turning a violent green he once again began throwing up this time curling up in the fetal position.
Letting it go for now Lucky began using the feeble light of the last flashlight to get their meager supplies together. Along with the shotgun and its ammo, he had several hunting knives, fire starting items, some canned goods. He had more but he was debating whether to risk taking the jalopey truck he had in his garage. It ran, normally, but it had been showing its age as of late. Hell he was showing his age. With Ed still out of it, and it being dark out by now, Lucky had to risk it one more night. Settling in he spent an uneasy night half peering out the curtain, the other half dozing. Somewhere in the morning darkness, his watch had died and time now seemed irrevelant, another violent chorus of screams filled the blackened streets. He could hear the metal fence clinking outside his property as if someone was running a pipe or worse along it. Lucky thought for a moment he glanced a small figure scurrying through his yard. Just as quickly it was gone. Only the smell of death seemed to stay for any length of time. Blocking the doors with whatever he could find Lucky crashed almost hoping not to wake up. Lucky couldn't be that lucky.
