Beschreibung

The book begins with the story of a man who, 100 years ago, changed the climate of his land by planting an abundance of trees. The main character decides to escape from the long-forgotten book, in order to take his message to the world. The children encounter him in the woods. A story within a story comes to life. A real life experience staged for elementary school children, who encounter fairy tale characters, in the flesh, one for each emotion, in the magic of surprise. This is a true fairy tale which aims to increase awareness of our own emotions, with the help of those elicited by nature and its conservation. It is the narrative of an educational project, part of the children's section of the Woods of Emotions Society of Toscolano Maderno (Italy), co-ordinated by Dr. Giuliano Guerra, psychotherapist, psychiatrist, author and scholar of neurosciences. It is the dream of those who believe that reading good books to children creates magical moments. It is a story written for children who ask adults, "Will you read me a story? Will you share the emotions with me?" The translation of this book was done by Dr. Olga Filippa Nel, PhD, Clinical & School Psychologist, Psychotherapist and Mindful Lifestyle Coach, "Translating Children Trees Emotions for my friend and author, Marina Alberta Davo, was an inspiring journey into the world of fantasy. I feel privileged to have been part of this project and hope that my small contribution will help to share this vital message with children in anglophone countries. I believe in a mindful lifestyle, one based on love, kindness and respect for oneself, for fellow human beings, for all living creatures and for our precious earth, as this has significant benefits on mental health, resilience and psychological wellbeing. Children Trees Emotions teaches children the important skills of emotional awareness and regulation in a whimsical, magical way that is truly heart-warming. A much needed and timeless message for young and old alike!"

Dear Reader,

I write this story with those children in mind who ask, “Will you read me the book about the fairy tale that really happened in the woods?”

It may sound strange, but the story is actually true. Everything really happened. It is a story created for readers who offer the gift of a supremely important and precious resource to children: their time.

I dedicate this book to children and to all those who know the difference between teaching and educating and who believe in the magic of emotions.

A sincere thanks, therefore, to those of you who have the desire to take the time to read stories and tales, passing on to our children emotions, and teaching them about feelings.

My heart breaks when I think of children who dream of playing freely in nature but who have no green places to go to. I dedicate this book to them and to all the trees that, in this last century, have been sacrificed to the fires of ignorance, indifference, greed and the selfishness of unscrupulous, short-sighted people.

I believe in the power of imprinting, that a story, read with passion, leaves on each one of us. I would love for this “true fairy tale” to become a seed.

I believe in the magic of the emotions which unites children and trees. A mighty, two-way yarn that can weave the fabric of the future of humanity.

Mother nature thanks you.

A note to say that children are already familiar with the foreword that follows, intuitively, or perhaps because children are, by nature, more inclined to use that part of the brain which knows how to listen to emotions…

FOREWORD

There is a supremely powerful connection between emotions and nature, just as a strong bond exists between the eight types of intelligence (1) which link the natural environment and creativity.

I have always asked myself how do people who live their lives in those cities that have little or no respect for humanity feel?

What is life like in those supercities that are more concerned, broadly speaking, with security, than the overall wellbeing of people? How do those who live their lives without real contact with nature feel? What do they become, in the depth of their souls? Where do they find refuge?

What becomes of our relationships with school friends, family, our children, colleagues, and neighbours, when we are far from a habitat which is nurturing to humanity?

People who have experienced nature, who know it well and have a feeling for it, often asks themselves these questions. There is an undisputable, profound difference between living in an environment with trees and one without.
