Conclusion - Manipulation
Psychologyitselfisa well-known and common concept in our society. We use psychology to help us in the various aspects of our lives, whether it be relationships, eating habits, or even picking the career that would best suit us. Understanding ourselves on the deepest possible level is what enables us to express ourselves and be true to what we believe in. But there's another side to psychology, one that addresses the traits that most people deem as immoral, and that side is known as dark psychology
With dark psychology, we are addressing the topics of influence, persuasion, and deception, to name a few. In using dark psychology to our advantage, we are essentially learning the art of manipulation. Everyone uses dark psychology at some point in their lives. Some people use it for their own benefit, while others may not even realize that their actions are considered a part of dark psychology. In either case, the end goal is the same: to achieve something for yourself by using other people to your advantage.
There are times when we can use dark psychology without harming the people we care about as we continue to climb towards success in both our personal and professional lives. This is, of course, the whole point of manipulation. Throughout this book, we will discuss the different ways that you can use dark psychological methods to create the advancements that you wish for in your life. We will also talk about body language in various forms of mind control.
Throughout the realm of dark psychology, there are interesting topics and techniques that are sure to open your eyes to the wonder of the mind. Let's start our journey into the darkness of how the mind works, and by the end of this book, you'll know everything you need to captivate people and become the leader you’ve dreamed of.
Atitscore, dark psychology is a set of principles that people use in order to get what they want by taking advantage of others. This might not sound appealing at first, because no one wants to be used for someone else’s gain, these are methods that we all use every day without even realizing. We don't mean to use others or belittle them, but we've all done it. And the reason we continue to do it is because we know that it works. Learning the proper way to use dark psychology to your advantage so that you can gain the success you're looking for without any setbacks is exactly what we are after.
Let's begin with a quick look at the history of dark psychology.
Psychology in general has been studied formally for only a little over 100 years. Of course, the intricacies of the mind and the way we perceive everything from sensations to emotions have been analyzed for centuries. Psychology was once seen as a part of philosophy, which makes sense when we go back to the early times of philosophy with great thinkers such as Socrates and Aristotle. Their early models made us look at human nature in a different way, and it all came from how we perceive the world around us.
It wasn't until the middle of the 19th century that German scientists began to perform studies that involved both perception and sensation, proving that mental processes could be scientifically studied and measured. And in 1879, German philosopher and physiologist Wilhelm Wundt established the first laboratory specifically for psychology at Germany’s University of Leipzig. Wundt began studying the emotions, sensations, perceptions, and the associations that his patients had between their environment and their minds.
From here, the following decades carried new ideas and discoveries through both applied and basic psychology. During this time, we see the evolution of behavioral, evolutionary, developmental, social, and occupational psychology, to name a few. And through all of this, psychologists began to understand that different behaviors lead to a diverse array of personalities. The connection between the person's thoughts, the way they perceive the world around them, and the behaviors that came from those thoughts developed into a view of the human race that not only included classic psychological traits but also dark psychological ones.
There are various traits involved in dark psychology, and these are the behaviors and patterns that people use in order to take advantage of others and achieve success for themselves. These are principles that we all use to some degree as it is our human nature to want to excel and rise above the rest. Some of us realize we are doing this and we feel empathetic toward the person we may have hurt, and some of us perform these behaviors on purpose knowing that we must in order to achieve what we are after. Still yet, certain personalities, which we will discuss in a moment, may perform these behaviors and feel as though they are entirely acceptable whether someone is hurt in the process or not.
Persuasion
Persuasion is the simple act of persuading someone to do something. This means that you are actively encouraging them to perform behaviors or to say certain things that you wish for them, and not ones that they necessarily want for themselves. Persuasion is a powerful tool in dark psychology as we can appeal to the interests of the person we are persuading in order to get the outcome we wish.
Persuasion has its roots in early human history, and as we would expect, it was greatly studied during the era of Greek philosophy. As a result, there are three broad modes used when we are attempting persuasion.
Ethos is the method of trying to convince others that you hold credibility. This can be a challenge for some but using basic achievements such as education and socioeconomic status can add to your credibility. When people see us as credible, they subconsciously connect trust to us or any other person who appears convincing. And, as we already know, persuasion is all about convincing someone to do things differently.
Pathos is the method we use to connect with human emotions. Most people are persuaded because of the way they feel toward a certain situation. Our emotions are often the strongest factor when we are faced with encouragement to change our behaviors or beliefs, such as the case when we are being persuaded ourselves. For this reason, we know that more often than not pathos is the strongest method for persuading someone else.
Logos is the method we use in order to connect with logic. Logic can be a very powerful thing for some people, especially in situations where emotions are not as strong a factor. Logos requires research and organization to be effective, and it must contain facts that are relevant to the situation and the person being persuaded for it to be successful.
When these three methods are used in unison, the results could be astounding. If you appear to be credible, with logical facts and heartfelt, relevant emotions, it would be difficult for anyone to ignore your pleas.
Manipulation
Manipulation happens when we try to control another person for personal gain. This skillful behavior takes time to cultivate as it requires us to accurately read and understand others in order to take advantage of their behaviors.
Manipulation comes in various forms, and of the most popular tactics we see manipulators using fear as a means of control, remaining passive-aggressive, or gaslighting. When a manipulator uses fear to control another person, they are essentially driving at that person's insecurities in order to gain the outcome they desire. With passive aggressiveness, the manipulator will say or behave in a way that invokes anger or displeasure without being direct about their emotions. This lack of emotions leaves the victim to think that they have done something wrong, thus creating more insecurity. And with gaslighting, the manipulator is denying events or statements that were made specifically for the purpose of causing the victim to question their reality.
Deception
Deception often plays a big role in dark psychology. A person using dark psychology can be considered a dark seducer. When A person cannot persuade or manipulate someone into doing what they want, the last thing left is to deceive. And with deception, we say or do things that will convince a person to believe something as truth when in fact it is not. There are a few specific types of deception that a dark seducer may use.
Lying is perhaps the most common because with a lie we can easily distort the truth to make others believe in something that is false. We can tell white lies, half-truths, deliberate lies, and we can lie by omission. With a white lie, we say things that we don't mean but these things are often harmless. We might compliment someone on a new outfit just to make them feel better even though we truly do not like the clothes at all. Half-truths are told to cover up part of the truth while giving away a little bit of the details. These are used when someone wants to elaborate on part of this situation because it is good but lies about the portion that might be deemed as bad. A deliberate lie is a completely false statement about any situation. And lying by omission is done to specifically exclude information.
In each of these cases, the goal is to try to convince someone of something specific by creating a false, yet favorable, reality around the situation.
