A Letter to Readers Dear Readers, I never thought I’d be writing a book directing teenagers. The relationship between each parent and teenager is a very personal and private matter. The idea of giving anyone instructions on how to spend their spare time just didn’t seem right to me. I try not to preach but I have incorporated some of Dominica’s culture. I was certain that by telling short stories about growing up in Dominica as a teenager, the reader would catch the spirit and be inspired to improvise on their own. I started to think about the possibility of writing a book that showed “how it can be done.” The more I spoke about it, the more comfortable I became with the idea. Why not a book that would give parents and caregivers a chance to do what they’ve learned at their own pace and with the things they have on hand-either by themselves or with friends. I have personalized the book. The experiences are real and affirm the dignity and humanity of both parents and teenagers. My original uneasiness quickly vanished once I started writing. I hope to get some copies off to the schools, youth groups and churches in Dominica. Sharon Aaron- Dorival
