The perfect next step for kids with a basic understanding of how to play the ukulele, Kids' Ukulele Song Book continues their musical practice with 30 new songs for kids to learn and play! With a quick refresher in the opening section that reviews the four basic ukulele chords learned in author Emily Arrow's first book, Kids' Guide to Learning the Ukulele, children will then learn and practice brand new chords and single notes to build on their existing skills. From there, easy-to-follow guidance for 30 simple songs will have children strumming in no time – from Starlight Starbright and If You're Happy and You Know It to Emily's original singalong tunes! Kids can also create their own original songs using the songwriting template pages, use a practice chart for staying on track, cut out helpful and colorful chord cards, and even access online audio to play along with author Emily Arrow, making Kids' Ukulele Song Book the ultimate continuation to expand and grow their ukulele knowledge and skill set! Author Emily Arrow has over 10 years of experience working with children and teachers in music education. An award-winning children's songwriter, an official Kala Brand Music Co. artist, and popular YouTube personality, her work has also been featured on SiriusXM's Kid's Place Live, as well as Sesame Street Studios.

Hello!
Hello!
I’m Emily Arrow, and I love to play and teach
ukulele. With my ukulele, I write songs and create
videos to share with listeners around the world. And
I have a very special way of teaching music . . .
the
Arrow way
!
The ukulele is a special instrument to many
people, and for many reasons. One reason I love the
ukulele is that I can bring it with me wherever I go!
That means I can practice ukulele outdoors and on
my porch. And I can bring my ukulele to bookstores,
parks, and cafes where I can share ukulele songs
with others. And the most magical reason I love the
ukulele is that playing music makes me feel calm
and helps me learn more about myself.
If you haven’t already checked out my first
book,
Kids’ Guide to Learning the Ukulele
,
that book goes into much more detail about
learning to play the ukulele and features
different songs. But if you haven’t, don’t
worry—you’ll still learn the basics in this
book and be able to play all this book’s songs!
This songbook will explore:
a quick-start guide to tuning
8 colorful chords
5 strumming patterns
fingerpicking
melodies on the frets
and songwriting!
Are you ready to play ukulele together?
This songbook will help you sing and play
the Arrow way!

KIDS’ UKULELE SONGBOOK
ABOUT THE UKULELE
About the
The instrument we now know as the
ukulele
was
inspired by an instrument called the
machete
. The
machete was introduced to the Islands of Hawaii by
Portugese immigrants in the 1800’s and looked very
similar to a guitar before it became the ukulele. Now,
the ukulele is a widely celebrated musical instrument in
the Hawaiian Islands . . . and beyond!
oo-koo-lay-lay
When I’m practicing my ukulele, I think
it’s fun to open a songbook and learn a new
song or even write my own! So in this book,
you can learn, practice, and write songs on
your own ukulele.
Ready to strum along?
Did you know that the Hawaiian Queen
Lili‘uokalani played the ukulele? Queen
Lili‘uokalani was a songwriter, and she wrote the
song “
Aloha ‘Oe
” as well as many other songs.
I love learning about the ukulele and the many
musicians who play this special instrument.
Let’s practice pronouncing, or speaking, the
word
ukulele
.
In the Hawaiian language, the
word “ukulele” means “jumping flea,” because
the sound of the strings is light and playful like
a flea is hopping on them! The word ukulele is
pronounced like this:
oo-koo-lay-lay
.
NI’IHAU
