The 29th installment in Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series is titled Going Rogue.
Going Rogue is a stand-alone book or audiobook even though it is part of a series. You may learn a lot about the background to understand who is who and other details.
The Plum novels are my go-to option for some lighthearted, comforting listening that isn't at all self-important even if I've missed a couple along the road. Because you are familiar with the characters, you can almost always count on a happy ending.
In Trenton, New Jersey, Stephanie works at her cousin Vinnie's Bail Bonds. The office manager is not there when she comes to work in the morning and the door is closed. Connie never skips a day in the office. the doughnuts aren't brought, etc. There is a problem. When Stephanie's colleague Lula receives a call from Connie's captors, it confirms their suspicion that Connie is still missing. Stephanie and Lula are now on the lookout for Connie. Is the plot excessive? Yes, but for me, this series' comforting qualities come from both it and the people.
with book 29 in her well-liked Stephanie Plum series, "GOING ROGUE." In this thrilling chapter, Stephanie and the group have to think outside the box to find one of their own who has been abducted!
Connie Roselli, their office manager, has vanished, and Stephanie, Lulu, Vinnie, Grandma Mazur, Joe, Ranger, and the group are worried. She is not to be found anywhere. Without her, things are not the same.
They get a bizarre call from the kidnapper demanding a mystery coin that a recently deceased guy had left as security for his bail in return for releasing her.
Unfortunately, this coin, which, like Connie, ought to be at the office, isn't there.
As they look for this coin and learn that millions of dollars are on the line and that the bad guys are after them, things start to become difficult.
There are plenty of doughnuts, chicken, Plum's mother's cuisine, fun, jokes, danger, blown-up automobiles, and funerals to attend while pursuing the bad guys, so don't worry.
The abductors make terrible threats. Dare I say that the coin is worth $11,000,000?
Plum's wacky family, which includes a granny with a pistol, an ominous next-door neighbor, three oddballs who formerly had the coin but now sell it, and Stephanie's two hot suitors—one a cop and the other the head of a wealthy private security firm—become engaged in the search very soon. It is orderly chaos.
Even the tiny people that Evanovich creates have memorable personalities.
She maintains order and pacing throughout (there is never a dull moment), and she pays attention to the recurring subplots that help to round out the story and create a nice feeling of a community that looks out for one another.
A zany narrative, hot romance, oddball characters, and a brazen, hilarious, and persistent bounty hunter make this a fantastic summer read.
