The Mind's Eye

A Solo Role Playing Game

To All The Old School Role Players. I love creativity and I also love Role Playing Games of all kinds, but my favorite is the Old School, Paper and Pencil style. But sometimes, I just didn’t have the desire or time to spend figuring out all of the math and searching the extensive tables that normal go along with those games. Sometimes, I just wanted to sit down at the table and get into an Adventure. Enjoy! BookRix GmbH & Co. KG81371 Munich

What is The Mind’s Eye

The Mind’s Eye is a Quick setup, Ultra Lite Rules, Solo Role Playing Game, for people who want to Play more by Imagination than complicated math and extensive table searching.

While this game was designed to be a Solo RPG, It would also be suitable for group play as well.

Everything in this game is designed to be played using only Your Imagination, paper, pencil, and One, Six sided Dice cube.

Of course you may also use anything else you have on hand to enhance your play, such as maps, photos, miniatures, and other RPG text, drawings, books, props, audio, etc.

You will start off by doing the following:

Create a Character.Create a Setting.Create a Starting Scenario.Prepare for the Adventure.Play the Game.

Creating Your Character

A simple Character sheet is provided, but you may decide to use a fancier one that you have on hand or even create your own.

You will need to give your Character(s) a Name, Race and Class.

You may want create more than one character for the adventure. Doing so, means less danger when you are attacked.

You just follow the same rules.

You may also want to print out an extra sheet for tracking battles with Monsters.

Standard Races & Classes

Race: Human, Elf, Dwarf, Halfling, Monster, Other.

Class: Fighter, Magic user, Rogue, Ranger, Cleric, Bard.

Feel free to add other or create your own Race and Class.

Note: Race & Class does not affect the Character(s) Stats.

Ex: Name: Sophos. Race: Elf. Class: Wizard.

No matter what Character you choose to play as, you will always Start as a Level 1, with (8) Hit Points.

Your Armor and Weapon Class will be Zero (0). You may enter a description of what ever Weapon and Armor you like.

Ex: Wooden Staff, Blue Robes, or Leather Armor, Short Sword.

There are Six Slots for the distribution of your Characters Stats.

The Five Default Stats are as follows:

Health, Strength, Agility, Intelligence, and Spirit.

The last Slot is a Special Talent. that you will create.

Note: It can be absolutely anything that you want.

Ex: Stealth, Stamina, Humor, Deception, Herbalist, Thievery, etc.

You will Roll Once for each Stat and place the number rolled in the appropriate slot on the character sheet, or for a Quick set up, you may choose to use numbers from One to Six, placing each number as you wish. Each number may only be used once.

Ex: A Warrior would probably put the Highest numbers in Strength and Agility, where a Wizard would probably select Intelligence and Spirit for the highest numbers.

There are Six other slots, on the Character sheet for Supplies: Food, Water, Tools, Aid, Wealth and Miscellaneous.

You will Roll for these in the same way as your Stats. Either rolling once for each slot, or using the 1 to 6 Quick method.

Ex: Food: (5) days rations, Water: (6) days rations, Tools: (2) Rope, Map. Aid: (4) Healing herbs, Wealth: (3) Gold, Silver, or Copper coins, Misc: (1) Torch, Lantern, etc.

You may add or discard other items as found in the game.

Your Stats will be used Mostly for descriptive assistance, but also for some minor adjustments during Oracle rolls the adventure.

Preparing for Adventure

Once you have created your Character(s), you will now need a Basic concept for your Adventure.

The first thing to do, is get a piece of paper or note pad and something to write with, then open your -=>(Mind’s Eye)<=- and let your imagination run wild. Jot down what ever ideas you come up with, considering the following.

You:

What Character(s) are you? A Barbarian, Knight, Cowboy, Monk, Ranger, Rogue, Astronaut, Wizard, Mercenary, Elf, Dwarf, Human, Animal, Etc?

What is your Back Story? What was your family life like? Where are you originally from? What life experiences have you had?

How was your childhood? How old are you now? What are some of your strengths and weaknesses?

You may want to sketch an image of your character(s) or use a figurine or other representation.

Where & When:

What is the Adventure Setting going to be? Is it a Fantasy world or something more Realistic?

When is it? Prehistoric, Medieval, Past, Present or Futuristic?

Maps and Mapping:

You may want to make a Sketch or use a pre-drawn map of the area or areas where your adventure is going to take place.

What are you going to do?

What is your Adventure about? A Quest, An Escape, Exploration? What is the end goal of the adventure?

How and where does it all begin? Where are you now? Where will you travel to?

Who or what are the other possible characters in this area of the world?

What are the possible hazards or threats along the way? What things are available on the journey?

What supplies should be taken? How many characters are in the party?

-=> MIND’S EYE STARTING SCENARIO <=-

If you just couldn’t come up with a starting scenario then try this.

While only One Six sided die is required, you are free to use three at a time, etc. If you feel it it helps.

Roll Once for the Action, Once for an Item or Character, then Once for the Location and refer to the tables below.

Ex: You Roll a (5), (1), and a (3). So that could be read as you are to Escort a Prisoner to or from a Temple.

You can also add other Actions, Items, Characters and Locations to the lists provided.

If you are traveling from Here to There, consider Rolling for your starting point as well.

Then envision what areas the route takes and add them in accordingly.

Ex: You Roll a (1) for a starting Location and choose Village from the table.

You Roll a (3) for Action and select Recover, Then you Roll a (4) for Item and select Chest.

Then you Roll a (5) for its location and select Cave.

So now you are going to travel from your Village to a Cave to Recover a Chest.

Now you will do a Distance Roll and then Journey Rolls to begin.

GameMechanics

So you have a Character, a Setting, and an Adventure picked out.

Now you need to know the Game Mechanics for the Mind’s Eye?

How does it work?

-=( The Oracle )=-

For a Simple Oracle Yes/No Question? Roll the Dice.

Even numbers are Yes, and Odd numbers are No.

Ex: We search the room. Do we find anything?

If you need a more Complex answer, then use the Oracle in the following manner.

Complex Oracle: You ask your Question, and Roll for the Answer.

The numbers (1) to (6) will determine the answer in order of Good to Bad, Weak to Strong etc.

Ex: Is it raining? A (1) is No, (2) a mist, or fog (3) light rain, (4) normal rain, (5) heavy rain, and (6) is a downpour.
