Beschreibung

This is a fantasy of what will happen if Survival of the Fittest comes to its logical conclusion. The nationality of the soldiers is purposefully kept vague as the change described is taking place in the collective human mind.

THE RUMOUR

Aniruddha Banhatti

(At the rise of the curtain, a sign-board “TORTURE TRAINING CAMP” is seen in one corner. Tents are seen on the background of rocky area. Moon is in the sky. Five persons - Roger, Booms, Fam, Martin and Dick discovered sitting round a camp fire)

Roger : Kelly knows.

Booms : Our organization is in danger.

Martin : I had warned Roger, nobody from our camp.

Roger : It was the question of my own life.

(A person enters from the wing, comes zigzagging through the tents towards the fire. Roger looks at him.)

Roger : Hi Kelly! Be seated.

Kelly : (Sits) Tired! Today's torture over at last!

Booms : What was it today?

Kelly : Being beaten up. Muscle-hardening. And while the beating goes on, a lecture is played about how to beat-up a person without leaving any marks on him. This continues till you remember the whole lecture.

Fam : You mean you are beaten-up till you remember it fully and can repeat it word by word ?

Kelly : Yes, but it is quite easy Fam. While it goes on, they strike on the spots mentioned in it, so if you remember the pain in the order in which it is inflicted, you remember the lecture. But the spots are chosen so accurately that it hurts like hell. (Silence)

Martin : Dick is thoughtful as usual.

(All of them laugh heartily at Dick )

Fam : Oh Kelly, you haven't started yet! Open this bottle and start.

Kelly : Thanks Fam.
