My friend the tree is dead
This is a line from an old German pop song
It says the tree was felled in the early morning dawn
I love the song a lot despite the sad background
Not only because of the strong husky voice
Of the late female singer
But rather for sensing in my then young age
The fact a tree could be a friend
Trees take in sunlight
Transforming it into leaves and create other forms of life
That is usable for insects, mammals, and birds
They also produce a cloud of mist that acts on the environment
Like one that protects the planet from solar radiation like a sun cream
Or others that work as a natural pesticide
Scientists have no doubt that trees help maintain human health
And the health of the rest of the natural world
