Did you know that ...
Tobacco is the cause of death for one out of every five?
Close to a half million people succumb each year from tobacco use?
Cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases come about because of tobacco consumption?
You can become impotent from nicotine addiction?
After reading the above, you have now come to the realization that smoking isn’t good for you. This is one habit that you should eradicate immediately. It’s known by a lot of people that consistent smoking can contribute to serious health issues. Some smokers just brush it off and don’t make much fuss about it.
However, there are statistics across the world in regard to people and smoking:
In the regions of Eastern Europe, there are more women smokers than there are in places like the Pacific Region and East Asia. There are also a lot of males that are smokers from the Eastern Europe region.
At one time, the frequency of smokers was divided into culture and social class. In the past, only the wealthy used to do it as a pastime. However, things have changed and you don’t’ find a lot of wealthy puffing tobacco.
People start smoking as early as their late teens.
Currently, there are over a billion smokers all over the world. This is a lot of people and it doesn’t look as though it will stop anytime soon. In the United States alone, the number of smokers (both male and female) is close to, if not already at 50 percent of the population.
Smokers can be found in all race groups. It has been shown through studies that people that have only 9 – 11 years of schooling tend to smoke more. Those that have 16 or more years of schooling tend to smoke less. With those that are in the poverty level range, they are among one of the highest groups of smokers.
Smoking also is responsible for the following:
Lung, larynx, and esophageal cancer
Kidney, bladder, pancreatic and cervical cancer
Respiratory illnesses, breathing problems, pneumonia
Respiratory illnesses in children and teenagers
Low birth weight during pregnancy, premature deliveries, greater risk of miscarriage and possible retardation
Fires caused by careless smoking
Many people become smokers because they wanted to try it out when they were younger. They decide they like it and from then on continue to smoke. Let’s take a look at some of the other factors that can contribute to transforming people into habitual smokers:
Peer pressure – When you with a group of your buddies and they all smoke, of course, they want you to get on in it also. They ask you on a dare. You really don’t want to, but then if you refuse, then you’re considered a “chicken”.
You want to continue having them as your friends and not feel left out. So you go ahead and take a puff. Before you know it, you’re part of their smoking group.
Easy access – You can purchase cigarettes just about anywhere nowadays. There is not a shortage of places where you can’t find them. It’s even easy for underage teens to get them. All they have to do is ask an adult.
Looking cool – Some people, especially teenagers, think it’s cool to smoke cigarettes. In particular females, try to strike a pose by putting the cigarette in between the index and the middle fingers and puff away.
Stress – Some people smoke as a means to relieve stress. Unfortunately, this is not the correct way to go about it. Smoking only compounds the problems that you currently have. It can also contribute to additional problems with your health.
