Chapter 1

Friendship knows no borders

The little dolphin boy Noah lived with his family in the Caribbean. His family was very large, because in the whole family compound lived 72 dolphins. Besides his mom and dad, there were his twelve older siblings, Noah was the youngest. Then there were also his aunts and uncles, cousins, his four grandparents and all his great aunts and great uncles. All the dolphins knew their place in the family and each had their job. The older dolphin ladies were responsible for childcare and made sure that nothing happened to the dolphin children.

For Noah it was nice to be a part of this big family. He felt so safe and secure because he knew that everyone was taking good care of him and that he had a place here in the group.

One peaceful day, while happily swimming his rounds with his family to hunt fish, his grandmother suddenly got severe pain and sank to the bottom of the sea.

She had swallowed something that caused her quite a lot of stomach pain and could not swim any further. It was something that people were continuously throwing into the sea.

Many birds and fish had already died from it. Squirming violently in pain, the grandmother finally had to die in agony. All the dolphins around her mourned and prayed for her. A big farewell ceremony was held for a week. Every single dolphin said goodbye to the grandmother by remembering all the wonderful experiences and events they had experienced with dear grandmother Sarah.

They also performed a special dance that is only done when a family member leaves the ocean and swims over to the eternal beyond sea. This dance looks very extraordinary. All the dolphins form a circle. First, the tail fin is brought to the left side and circled three times, then brought to the right side and circled three times. Then they all make the same upward movements, spiral upward, and form a circle about three meters above the deceased, swimming in one direction until a kind of suction or whirlpool is formed. Now they say goodbye once again in their thoughts and imagine how the soul can swim pleasantly and calmly through this whirlpool into the sea of the hereafter, carried by the movements of their loved ones. There, in this beyond sea, all the ancestors and family members who have already swum ahead are waiting and lovingly receive them.
