Bonito (translated “beautiful”) became worldwide famous by Ecotourism. Tourists always praise the fantastic, beautiful landscapes with transparent rivers (high content of calcium bicarbonate and magnesium, high lime concentration in the soil), waterfalls, grottoes and caves. Mostly we see sedimentary rock (formed from algae and shells, hardened into rock), about 500 to 600 million years old (Corumba-Sea, scaling). The Bonito caves are wet and dark, some have lakes inside, bats and small creatures. For safety reasons these caves should be only entered with a guide.
The government limits the number of eco-tourists and allows only a certain number of tourists staying in the city and in the national parks. Condition and beauty of landscape and nature should be preserved. It teems with plants, animals, birds and fish species.
Recommended is a stay of 4 full days in Bonito (arrival and departure not included). You are already in the Pantanal!
Trips:
The Bonito community belongs to the Paraguay River Basin, sub-basin of the river Miranda. Also known and loved: Rio Sucuri; definitely worth a visit. The limestone rivers are transparent. There are plenty of waterfalls; the Boca da Onça is the highest.
