"How are you gonna make it, honey?" she asked her bluntly.

"Come on over and we'll talk about it," Gloria told her.

Even though Susan didn't like the long drive in the hot summer heat, she thought she ought to go meet her girl friend and see if there was a possibility of obtaining employment.

When she got to Gloria's place, she was startled to see that Gloria was drinking. It was only two o'clock in the afternoon and she never knew Gloria to drink until evening.

"What do you want to drink?" Gloria slurred.

"Nothing," Susan insisted.

"You look thirsty," Gloria insisted. "Such a hot day, honey, why don't you have something tall and cool to refresh yourself?"

Seeing how Gloria was insisting, she figured she might as well accept.

"All right, give me a Screwdriver," Susan suggested somewhat reluctantly.

It didn't take Gloria long to mix the orange juice and vodka.

"Easy on the vodka," Susan warned her. "I'm not an alcoholic yet."

"I'm not either," Gloria shook her head. "I know when to stop."

Susan wanted to ask her if she was sure. However, she figured it would only irritate her and she never said another word. Finally after a few sips of her drink, Susan demanded, "You said I should come over here. I told you I was job hunting."
