Dedication

Jacob and I dedicate this book in memory of Thomas Poppleton, my father-in-law and Jacob’s grandfather. Tom and I both started scroll sawing when he retired at 60 in 1988, and he continued for over 25 years. Tom was a talented artist and drew many of his own designs. He sold his finished work at craft shows and a small farmers’ market near the family cottage every Saturday morning in the summer. He was probably the most decent human being that I have had the pleasure of knowing, and a visible sign of what his family thought of him is that four of his grandsons were given his name either as a first or middle name. We all miss him dearly.

Introduction

Jacob and I have been working together on scroll saw patterns for over 20 years and have had a lot of fun along the way with very few arguments. Jacob has drawn well over 1,000 designs, and I have proofed and cut most of them. We also share duties as the wildlife photographer for the many realistic animal designs that Jacob has generated. However, Jacob is certainly not limited to wildlife patterns, and my side businesses for my finished work—selling pieces at craft and art shows—do need simpler and more diverse designs. We are pleased to share here some of the successful designs appropriate for craft shows, gifts, and around your home. We have not forgotten the many wonderful people who bought our first book and we have included a selection of very detailed wildlife designs to continue to challenge you.
