Beschreibung

This publication contains The Old Testament and The New Testament of the World English Bible (2000) translation. And it holds a total of 678,582 references linking up all the books, chapters and verses. It includes a read and navigation friendly format of the texts.

How the general Bible-navigation works:

A Testament has an index of its books.

The Testaments reference each other in the book index.

Each book has a reference to The Testament it belongs to.

Each book has a reference to the previous and or next book.

Each book has an index of its chapters.

Each chapter has a reference to the book it belongs to.

Each chapter reference the previous and or next chapter.

Each chapter has an index of its verses.

Each verse is numbered and reference the chapter it belongs to.

Each verse starts on a new line for better readability.

Any reference in an index brings you to the location.

The Built-in table of contents reference all books in all formats.

Webster's Unabridged Dictionary 1913: Authored by Noah Webster (1758–1843). He spent decades of research in compiling his dictionaries and this edition contains some 28999 entries.

We believe we have built one of the best if not the best navigation there is to be found in an ebook such as this! It puts any verse at your fingertips and is perfect for the quick lookup. And the combination of World English Bible and its navigation makes this ebook unique. If you love the original old solid Bible dictionaries or Concordances and would like to have them all mixed together with The World English Bible (2000), easily accessible, then this release is exactly that.

Foreword

This is the compilation of Webster's Dictionary & World English Bible. It contains 28,999 definitions and 678,579 cross-references. The reason for the high number of cross-references is that each word within a given definition is further linked to its own definition in Webster's Unabridged Dictionary (1913), if such a definition exists. We have also included the World English Bible and linked the Bible references from the dictionary. And we have referenced the use of the definitions in the Bible back into the dictionary.

Webster's Unabridged Dictionary 1913

Noah Webster (1758–1843), the author of the readers and spelling books that dominated the American market at the time, spent decades of research in compiling his dictionaries. His first dictionary, A Compendious Dictionary of the English Language, appeared in 1806. In it, he popularized features that would become a hallmark of American English spelling (center rather than centre, honor rather than honour, program rather than programme, etc.) and included technical terms from the arts and sciences rather than confining his dictionary to literary words.

Webster was a proponent of English spelling reform for reasons both philological and nationalistic. In A Companion to the American Revolution (2008), John Algeo notes: "it is often assumed that characteristically American spellings were invented by Noah Webster. He was very influential in popularizing certain spellings in America, but he did not originate them. Rather he chose already existing options such as center, color and check on such grounds as simplicity, analogy or etymology". In William Shakespeare's first folios, for example, spellings such as center and color are the most common. He spent the next two decades working to expand his dictionary.

About The World English Bible

The following is taken from Wikipedia:

The World English Bible came about in order to provide a complete translation of the Holy Bible in normal modern English that can provide unrestricted free posting on the internet and also be freely copied without written permission from the publisher and payment of royalties. No other Bible is thus available and this is the vacuum that the World English Bible is filling. Under the guidance of Rainbow Missions, Inc., a Colorado nonprofit corporation, scores of volunteer translators, editors and proofreaders have produced the WEB. The World English Bible is an update of the American Standard Version of 1901, which is in the Public Domain. The WEB revision is also in the Public Domain, which sets it apart from other revisions of the American Standard Version, like the New American Standard Bible and the Revised Standard Version. There is also the World English Bible: Messianic Edition that substitutes traditional Hebrew names and phrases for the equivalent Greek/English names and phrases.

The translation method of the World English Bible is primarily that of formal equivalence (word for word), and is based on the 1901 American Standard Version, the Greek Majority Text, and the Hebrew Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia. The process consists of seven "passes” of editing and proofreading for each book of the Bible. An initial automated pass updated approximately 1,000 archaic words and phrases. The first manual pass was to add quotation marks (the ASV had none) and other punctuation, and to check the translation against the Greek and Hebrew texts where there are significant textual variants or the meaning is unclear. The WEB does not capitalize deity pronouns, but does use the original Hebrew "Yahweh” when rendering the tetragrammaton. The World English Bible also includes the Apocrypha/Deuterocanonical books.

The World English Bible is to be commended for being a modern, free, and Public Domain English translation of the Bible. Overall, the WEB is a very good translation, sticking closely to formal equivalence in most instances. If there is a downside to the WEB, it is that it is not always in the most natural-sounding and free-flowing English, likely due to the WEB going with as literal renderings as possible. The lack of availability of the WEB in print form has hindered its adoption by the Christian community at large.

The official webpage is at worldenglishbible.org where you also can find different resources and formats of this Bible.
