Introduction
Marriage is a sacred covenant ordained by God from the very beginning. In the Garden of Eden, God said, "It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him" (Genesis 2:18, ESV). He then created Eve from Adam's rib to be his wife and partner. Jesus himself affirmed the permanence of marriage, stating, "What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate" (Matthew 19:6, ESV).
Yet despite God's clear design for the lifelong union of husband and wife, the reality is that many marriages today are plagued by strife, unfaithfulness, and the devastating force of divorce. The Bible says, "Because of the hardness of your hearts [God] wrote you this commandment. But from the beginning of creation, 'God made them male and female.' 'For this reason, a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.' So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate" (Mark 10:5-9, NASB).
If you find your marriage in peril from the acids of pride, unforgiveness, poor communication, or other corrosive forces, take heart - God can redeem and restore what was broken. This book provides 20 powerful prayers, grounded in Biblical truth, to help couples invite God's healing power into their marriage covenant. Through repentance, submission to God's wise design, and an outpouring of the Holy Spirit's renewing work, even seemingly hopeless situations can be redeemed for His glory.
As 1 Corinthians 7:10-11 says, "To the married I give this charge (not I, but the Lord): the wife should not separate from her husband (but if she does, she should remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband), and the husband should not divorce his wife" (NIV). No matter how bleak your marital circumstances, God can repair what is broken when you humbly seek Him. Open your heart through prayer to experience the restoration only He can provide.
Chapter 1
Prayer for God's Presence in the Marriage
Deuteronomy 31:8 (KJV)
"The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."
Heavenly Father,
You have brought us together in holy matrimony in Your boundless love and infinite wisdom. We humbly come before Your throne, recognizing Your sovereign authority over our lives and union. As we start this journey together, we earnestly seek Your presence as the cornerstone of our marriage.
Lord, we invite You to dwell within the very fabric of our relationship. May Your holy presence permeate every aspect of our lives, guiding our thoughts, words, and actions. Grant us the grace to walk hand in hand with You, trusting in Your divine plan for our marriage.
