We've probably all heard an older gentleman declare that his wife is more beautiful now than the day they married. And we likely thought he was crazy. What we fail to recognize in our outward-focused airbrushed society, is that time really does make things beautiful. More accurately, time gives us perspective on the true definition of beauty. When we sit and intentionally reflect on something, it affords us a glimpse into the depth of beauty that lies within. So, while the external beauty may be fading, there is a wealth of beauty inside. God says that he makes all things beautiful in his time. All things. As you reflect on these Scriptures, devotions and prayers, you will find the unfading beauty spoken of in God's Word. Perseverance, humility, grace, obedience—these are beautiful. But there's more. The beauty God creates in us cannot be fully described in human terms. When you are met with challenges, take time to sit in the presence of the Lord. As you rest there, you become more like him, adopting his thoughts and plans as your own. In time you will see how difficult situations became a catalyst for true beauty in you. God says that he makes all things beautiful in time. All things. As you reflect on these Scriptures, devotions and prayers, you will find the unfading beauty spoken of in God’s Word. Perseverance, humility, grace, obedience—these are beautiful. When we sit and intentionally reflect, it affords us a glimpse into the depth of beauty that lies within. So, while the external beauty may be fading, there is a wealth of beauty inside.
When you are met with challenges, take time to sit in the presence of the Lord. As you rest there, you become more like him, adopting his thoughts and plans as your own. In time you will see how difficult situations became a catalyst for true beauty in you.
We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps.
PROVERBS 16:9 NLT
A new year brings with it the excitement of new opportunities. Who doesn’t look forward to a fresh start? When we dream new dreams, imagine better outcomes, and set goals for our lives, we do so with good intentions. We hope for more than we’ve yet experienced.
What if this year, along with our planning, we also make room for God to move us in unexpected ways? Why don’t we let go of what we can’t control, trusting God to move on our behalf? Nothing is impossible for him. He can bring beauty out of ashes when all we see is dust. He is worthy of our trust, wholly capable of weaving his goodness through our disappointments. With tender hope and audacious faith, let’s believe that God is who he has revealed himself to be through his Word. Let this year be an opportunity to learn to trust him more deeply, for he knows what he is doing better than we ever could.
Faithful Father, thank you for a fresh start this new year. May I learn how to lean into your love more and more each day, trusting you to guide me through whatever comes my way. I’m so grateful to know that you are with me and that you will never, ever leave.
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
MATTHEW 7:7 NASB
There is a divine principle in the instruction of Jesus to ask, seek, and knock. When we look to God, asking for what we need, he answers us. So, let us turn our worries into prayers. When we look and see lack in our lives, may we turn it into fuel for our faith-filled prayers.
There is power in persistence. When we train our hearts to turn toward God in prayer, keeping an open line of communication, God meets us with mercy. May we not fall into the trap of thinking that we are slaves of our circumstances. Our God is bigger, he is better, and he has solutions for every problem we face. Let us look to him continually, for he has power to raise the dead to life. He is the God of miracles.
Gracious God, thank you for hearing me whenever I call out to you. Whether it’s a whisper or a shout, you hear me clearly. I know that you are the God who delivered the Israelites from the slavery of Egypt. You shut the mouths of the lions when Daniel was thrown into their pit, and you guided the stone that David pelted at Goliath. I ask, seek, and knock today, not holding anything back from you.
“Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the LORD your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”
DEUTERONOMY 31:6 NLT
Look through the lives of the prophets of old, and you will find countless stories of God’s faithfulness to his people. No one’s life is without trouble. No one escapes suffering, not even Jesus. Especially not Jesus!
When we face trials, may our hope be rooted in the anchor of Emmanuel, God with us. He promises to not abandon his people. What are you facing that feels utterly overwhelming? God is with you. He gives you strength and grace, filling you with his Spirit. Do not be afraid today. The Lord your God has already gone before you. Follow his lead, and let his strength bolster you in your weakness. He will not fail you.
Lord, my God, give me strength and courage to face the overwhelming and hard tasks ahead of me. Be with me in the midst of it all. Lift my eyes when I start to fear. Come in close with your Spirit to remind me that you are with me. Lead me into goodness, God. I trust you.
You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.
ISAIAH 26:3 NIV
What does it mean to truly trust someone? What comes to mind? Is it reliability and consistency? Someone that you know will be there for you, no matter what? A trustworthy friend is a treasure in this life. Above anyone on this earth that you may rely on, there is a friend who is even better. Your heavenly Father is ready to help, whenever you need it.
God is full of loyal love that covers you at every moment. He is a strong shelter to run to in any storm of life. He will never fail you. Put your trust in God, for he is for you. He is with you. He delights in you. He takes care of you. When you count on him, you can rest in his perfect peace, for he always does what he says he will do. What has been distracting you from his consistent care? Can you offer it to him today and rest in his peace?
Steadfast One, thank you for never changing, not even for a moment. Though my thoughts are swept in many different directions, depending on the day, you are steadfast in love and mercy. I give you my anxious thoughts. Teach me to trust you. You are greater than my troubles, and you will not fail. Let your peace wrap around me today.
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”
MATTHEW 5:4 ESV
In the dark days of grief, the loneliness of heavy sorrow can be overwhelming. Though we can’t avoid the pain of loss in this life, there is good news. In the midst of our pain, the Comforter meets us. He is El Roi, the God who sees. The Spirit of God is our ever-present help in times of trouble. He is close to the broken-hearted. He draws near to the weak, and he offers us his strength. Though weeping may last for a season, joy will come again.
May you experience the close comfort of the Holy Spirit in your disappointment and in your grief. May his peace cover and keep you today. He makes all things beautiful, and he will grow a beautiful garden out of the grief you bear. Let him lift it, and he will lighten your load. Trust him in the process. He has not given up on you.
Loving Lord, thank you for meeting me with your merciful kindness every time I turn toward you. When I cannot see the goodness in my life around the heavy burdens I bear, I will lay them before you. Come in close and meet with me. Shift my perspective, that I may see your loving presence that never leaves. Thank you.
Blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.
JEREMIAH 17:7 NIV
When we put our trust in the Lord in all things, we can rest in his faithfulness. He is faithful to take care of every need we have. May we lay our worries at his feet today, asking him to give us fresh revelation of his steadfast kindness already present in our lives. When we look to him, we will not be disappointed. He weaves his mercy through every area of our lives.
If we cannot see it, we must ask for his perspective. Though trials and problems are unavoidable in this life, his perfect power and presence is even more constant. Let us look to the one who holds heaven and earth in his hands—the Alpha and Omega, our great and mighty Lord. Let us throw our anchor of hope into the ocean of his kindness. Though storms may come, we will not be moved from his loyal love.
Great God, I look to you, my steadfast source of hope. I will not trust in the systems of this world, for they will fail me. I will not rely on my own strength, for it wavers. I trust in you, the Unchanging One. I lean on your understanding, not my own. May my confidence grow deeper as my faith is rooted in you.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
MATTHEW 11:28 NIV
When was the last time you felt truly rested? Not just physically, but in your soul. Things can build up over time. You may not even notice how much you are carrying by your own strength until you are overwhelmed by the heaviness of it all.
Do a check-in today. How many thoughts are running through your head? How does your heart feel? How much physical energy do you have? Instead of letting the realities you are facing overwhelm you, will you turn to Jesus? He offers you the same invitation he did to the crowd in Matthew 11: “Come to me…and I will give you rest.” May you find rest today in the nearness of Jesus through his Spirit. Come to him, for he receives you with open arms.
Jesus, thank you for your invitation to rest. I’m so grateful to know that there are no prerequisites to experiencing your peace except to come to you. Flood my heart, soul, body, and mind with your perfect peace today, and give me the rest I need.
“Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal.
Store your treasures in heaven.”
MATTHEW 6:20-21 NLT
Jesus taught his disciples that treasure is where the heart is. What sort of treasures are we storing up with our affections? What do we spend our time and energy on? We get to choose how we spend our lives and where we focus our attention. The overflow of our hearts is found in what spills over into our conversations and our relationships.
What kind of fruit is showing up in our lives? Does it reveal our preoccupation with getting more and better things in life? Do we spend our money on meeting the world’s standards? There is a much more worthwhile treasure to be found in the kingdom of God and in its value system. When we are generous with kindness, we will find that there is plenty to fill us up. Mercy freely given is a reward in itself, for mercy will also be given to us. Let us wisely choose how we spend our time, our attention, and our money. It all matters.
Great God, I want to store up treasures in your kingdom more than I want to satisfy my comfort here and now. Give me broader vision than my little life. I want your mercy to overflow from me to your world.
“Don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will have its own worries. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
MATTHEW 6:34 NCV
How would your life be different if you focused more on the present? What if, instead of ruminating on the past or fantasizing about the future, you spent more time thinking about today? Would your priorities change? Each moment is a gift. Parents are often told, “the days are long, but the years are short.” Can you relate to this? Do you look back on a time in your life with fondness and regret, knowing you didn’t appreciate what you had when you had it?
The practice of gratitude helps us recognize what might otherwise be taken for granted. Instead of focusing on that which we can’t control, when we slow down to the present moment, we are more able to appreciate what is true now. How can you practice presence in your day, in your relationships, and in your work?
Constant One, as I give you my worries today, help me to take things as they come. May I cultivate gratitude with eyes that look for your goodness where it already meets me. Thank you for a fresh perspective and a new day to know you.
You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.
PSALM 56:8 NLT
There is no tenet in the gospel that requires us to be happy at all times. It is not one of the commandments given to us. We have a range of emotions because we were made in the image of an emotional God. When we look at Psalms, we find a book of songs and poems that illustrate the broad range of the human experience. God does not chastise our sadness. Jesus wept for Lazarus, even though he was about to raise him back to life.
When we learn to accept our emotions, to feel what we feel, we open up new depths in relating to God. He is the one who keeps track of our sorrows. He collects our tears and records our grief. If he cares for us in our pain, why would we deny it in ourselves? Let us not despair in our suffering; may we find the comfort of his peace that surrounds us in it.
All-Knowing One, you see every hurt and disappointment. You hear my cries, and you draw near to me with the comfort of your presence. Meet me in the messiness of my emotions today and reveal more of your true character to me through them.
“Everyone my Father has given to me, they will come. And all who come to me, I will embrace and will never turn them away.”
JOHN 6:37 TPT
Have you ever put off going to someone because you feared how they would receive you? Each of us has known a time of uncertainty in a relationship. Whether it be confession, confrontation, or sharing a vulnerability, relationships require risk. We cannot control the reaction of another. And yet, in our relationship with Jesus, we always know what to expect.
He welcomes all who come to him, and he promises to never turn us away. He is full of love that covers every one of our mistakes. His mercy never wavers, and his kindness is matchless. When we have trouble believing that God is as good as he says, let us remember the parable of the prodigal son. The Father runs to meet us as we come to him.
Good Father, thank you for loving me as I am today. I will not hesitate to come to you with all that I carry and with the reality of my current self. Thank you for never turning me away, not even when I bring my questions and doubts along. You are so much bigger and better than that.
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.”
ISAIAH 43:1 ESV
There are times in life when we will inevitably feel isolated and alone. Even when surrounded by people, we may find that our grief sends us inward. No matter the extent of our community and loving family, God understands us as no other can. He sees us in our weakness, and he understands our struggles. He knows the pain that we carry, even when no one else sees it. He has called us by name, and we are his. We belong to him.
Take heart today. Run into the arms of your loving Father. He has redeemed you! You are a part of his family, and he will never abandon you. Let his love be your courage, and let your song be the anthem of the redeemed. You can trust him to guide you into his goodness. He will take care of you. Listen, and you will hear him calling out to you.
Faithful God, as I look to you today, fill my heart with courage. Give me strength in your presence. Love me to life again. I’m so grateful that you never stop loving me. Come close, even as I draw close to you.
“Give, and you will receive. You will be given much. Pressed down, shaken together, and running over, it will spill into your lap. The way you give to others is the way God will give to you.”
LUKE 6:38 NCV
One of the most beautiful examples of the kingdom of God is found in generosity. This kind of generosity does not limit its output based on personal preference. God is a God of abundance! He is full of loyal love, unending mercy, and resurrection power. He saves, redeems, and restores. He takes care of those who cannot take care of themselves, and he blesses those who exemplify his goodness.
Is generosity a value that you put into practice? If we want to be like God, then the practice of giving must be part of how we live. May we value intentionality in our generosity. May it be reflected in how we invest our money, time, and resources. We do not give without hope. As in all things, may we do it with faith, hope, joy, and love.
Generous One, I want to reflect the kindness of your heart in my life. Teach me to hold things of this earthly life with a loose grasp, trusting that when I give freely, it is an opportunity to make space to receive more from you. Thank you!
Your laws are my treasure; they are my heart’s delight.
PSALM 119:111 NLT
When we walk in the light of God’s ways, we have no need to fear. In fact, God’s delight becomes our own as we understand the incomparable character of the one who shines in glory. There is no error in the law of love. There is no darkness in his kingdom. We become more like him as we align our lives with his.
The King of kings and Lord of lords is the same one who calls us his own. May we yield our hearts to him in ever-increasing measure as he faithfully shows us the wonders of his glorious love. Let us meditate on his wonderful Word, for there is a treasure trove of wisdom within it. May we readily submit to him in obedience, knowing that the one who calls us is worthy. There is no hidden agenda in his heart. We will know peace, joy, and true acceptance as his Word manifests in our lives.
Worthy One, thank you for your Word. As I meditate on it today, will you make it come alive to me with the insight that only your Spirit can bring? I long to know you more and to come alive in the pure delight of your love.
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
JOHN 14:27 NLT
When troubles tumble into our lives and then set up camp, it can be overwhelming. When our fears become reality, our faith is tested. In these moments, we can ask ourselves: are we placing our trust in our ideals or in the faithfulness of God? He promises that during our troubles, he is with us. He has given us his own Spirit to comfort and keep us. His grace and strength become ours in our weakness. When we rely on him, we rest on the Rock of Ages. He will not let us be taken out by the trials of this life. We will not be ripped to shreds, though it may feel that way at times.
Let us not lose sight of the one who holds our lives. He gives us peace for the chaos—peace that lasts! In the midst of suffering and sorrow, he sows his deep peace into our hearts and minds. It does not waver, and neither does his love. May we set our eyes on the firm foundation of our hope, even as we ask for the ministry of his peace among us.
Unchanging One, I look to you today. You are the true peace-giver, and I need a fresh touch of your tangible presence in my life. You said that you have left us with the gift of your supernatural peace; may it fill, soothe, and surround my heart and mind.
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”
JOHN 14:6 NLT
As children grow and learn, their capacity of understanding continually expands. By the time we reach early adulthood, it may feel as if we’ve learned all the important lessons and are ready to conquer the world. The confidence of youth, however, gives way to the later understanding that learning does not end when we reach a certain age.
With humble hearts, may we be open to understanding things in new ways as new evidence is presented. May love line our hearts and keep us connected to others instead of being isolated by pride. Jesus will always be the way, the truth, and the life. There is so much to discover in his kingdom, and there is an open door through him. May we enter today with humility and wonder, asking for new insights.
Wise God, you are the one that I look to for solutions and guidance. I long to learn more of your ways and the mysteries of your kingdom. I come to you, Jesus. Lead me to the Father of creation and give me greater revelation.
“I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.”
JOHN 13:15 NLT
When we are wading through the varying opinions of others in this world, it can be difficult to know how to live or what to do. Trends and popular opinions are as reliable as vapor in the morning air. They will not last. Instead of looking to outside sources for how to align our lives, may we look to Jesus, who never changes. His example is the only one that truly matters.
Even in the realm of Christianity, there are differing thoughts on theological matters. But no one can argue the person and life of Jesus. Though it is not easy to follow his example of servant love, it is uncomplicated. Let us return to what remains constant today. May we look to Jesus above all others, even those we hold in high esteem. Let us follow his lead. It is the highest way.
Jesus, thank you for coming to the earth in flesh and blood and for living a life that I can relate to. I trust that your ways are wiser than my own, that your love is better than my comfort. I will follow you.
“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
JOHN 16:33 NLT
In the valleys of life, when our beliefs and hopes are called into question, will we trust the one who remains with us? Jesus warned us that life would not be easy. He told his disciples that they would face many trials and sorrows. Are we surprised when we face the same? It is not the size of the struggle that determines our faith. It is the persistent surrender to his guidance in our lives. He will not fail us.
When our hearts are heavy, may we know the comfort of his presence. When our questions are many, may they be overcome by the reality of the power of the risen Christ. He is with us. What a balm to the soul, and what an assurance! He is with us. May our peace be plentiful as we trust that he is still God, the overcomer. He will deliver us from trouble.
Messiah, thank you for the reminder of your overcoming power today. Though I walk through dark valleys, you are with me. Though I cannot see what is ahead, you are leading me with clarity and purpose. Please, redeem what is broken. Restore my heart in your love.
You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
PSALM 16:11 ESV
There is never a day, not even a moment, when we are without God’s presence. Let us enter in with thanksgiving and praise today, no matter what yesterday looked like. There is always fullness of joy in his heart. There are endless pleasures to be found in him. Why would we stay away? Why would we strive to simply get by on our own? We are sons and daughters of the living God, and he is generous with us.
Everything we need is provided by him. Everything we could ever long for finds its fulfillment in God alone. There is nothing better than his love, and his lavish kindness knows no end. May we greet the God who never leaves like a child turning to their parent. He is ever near, ready to instruct us in the ways of abundant life. Let’s reach out to him; we will find that he is already reaching out to us.
Father, my heart is full of gratitude toward you. Thank you for never abandoning me in my weakness—not even when I push you away. You are so patient and kind. Lead me in your love today as I submit my heart to you. Fill me with your joy.
“I will give them one heart, and put a new spirit within them. And I will take the heart of stone out of their flesh and give them a heart of flesh.”
EZEKIEL 11:19 NASB
When we look to God for guidance in relating to others, one thing is clear. Love is the standard. There is no excuse for apathy in his Word. Are we living to soothe ourselves and get our own way, or are we living in his love, letting it transform and compel us? His compassion is not stagnant, and that compassion will not allow your heart to be still.
What is the state of your heart today? How much are you led by love in your life? No matter the answer, there is good news. God is the giver of life. He is the one who takes hearts of stone and replaces them with hearts of flesh. There is no heart too hard that he cannot mold it in his love. Will you give him access today?
Compassionate God, I surrender to you. I don’t want to live in apathy. Love is costly, but I know it is worth it. Fill me with your compassion; I want to be moved by your mercy. Change my heart as only you can.
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
2 CHRONICLES 7:14 NIV
God is a miracle-working God. He is not some distant grandfather figure watching from afar while we make a mess of things on earth. He is full of mercy that changes lives. He is endless in kindness that draws us to him. He is abundant in love that washes away a multitude of sins. It is never too late to turn to him. As long as the world turns, he is still the Redeemer. He will take our rebellion and raise beauty from its ashes when we submit our lives to him.
Let us humble ourselves, pray, and seek his face today. Let’s turn from the wickedness of pride and sin, turning to the one who shines his radiant redemption on all in equal abundance. He is worthy of our lives, and we will find that we are fully alive in the light of his love. He is better than we can imagine.
Redeemer, I turn to you again today. Take the ashes of my failures, along with the wickedness of my self-serving ways, and have mercy on me. You are so full of kindness. I cannot stay away! Thank you for the promise of redemption.
“If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
JOHN 8:31-32 NKJV
Have you ever felt at a loss for how to proceed in life? Has there ever been a time when you approached a fork in the proverbial road and not known which way to turn? If you are living in the light of God’s kingdom ways, looking to his Word for wisdom, you will find it.
The answer may not always be obvious, but you need not worry about the outcome when you walk with him. The truth of the overcoming power of Jesus will be your freedom in every area of life. Even when you stumble, you will not be taken out of the race. This life is a journey, full of twists and turns. Let the Word guide you along the path of life. He will never abandon you, not even for a moment.
Living Word, you are my guide in all things. I look to you for wisdom today. Speak to me through your Word. Awaken in my heart the understanding you give with your Spirit. I trust you with my future. I would love to know you more, Lord.
“Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.”
DEUTERONOMY 7:9 NIV
What the Lord sets in motion, no one can stop. He is faithful in all of his promises. If his timing has you discouraged, let today be the day you press into his presence with you now. His grace never runs out, and it is always enough to strengthen you. Give God your worries; throw all your cares at him. There is nothing too big for him, and there is nothing too miniscule that you should keep to yourself. His love never runs dry, and his peace is plentiful.
What do you need today? What is it that your soul requires? Don’t silence yourself before God. The fears that you face are nothing compared to the overwhelming power of his presence. He is with you for every moment and every step along the journey of this life. Lean on him, look to him, and trust him. When you let go of the need to control outcomes, you will be swept along in the river of his grace.
Lord God, I give you the reins of my life. You are powerful, wise, and constant. I want to rest in your confidence, no matter the unknowns I face in this life. I reach out for you today. Strengthen the cord that binds us together and show me what you are planning.
“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
MATTHEW 5:16 NIV
Jesus never tired of instructing those who came to him for wisdom in the importance of love, mercy, and compassion. The Father, he revealed, welcomes us with open arms when we come to him. We should never try to hide the light of his love from shining from our lives. We have been called, not to act like spoiled children of the living God, but to be bearers of his likeness in the way we live.
What is the fruit of our lives? How does God’s mercy move us to serve others? Are we biased and judgmental of those who are different, or are we compassionate and open-hearted? May we look to Jesus’ example for how to align our lives in love. As we let his love shine on us, our own motives will be transformed. May we live as children of the light, that others may see our humble love and glorify our Father in heaven.
Radiant One, shine your truth into areas where I am comfortable in my apathy. May I be moved by your Spirit’s love, joy, and peace. May my hope be firmly anchored in you, not in my preferences or comfort. Teach me to love the way that you do as I look to your Word today.
“Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.”
JOHN 16:22 NIV
Have you ever been in a season of sorrow that seemed never-ending? Did it feel as though you would never know joy again? Take heart and hope from today’s verse. Though you may weep with deep grief, you will know the joy of his victory. You have access to the unending mercy of the Father now through Jesus Christ. There is nothing keeping you from the fullness of his presence.
Today, ask for what you need. Do not keep your requests to yourself, for God is a good and faithful father. He listens to your cries and moves on your behalf. Isaiah 61:3 says that God gives “the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.” That is his promise, today and every day.
Constant One, minister your comfort in the places of my heart and life that are marked by sadness. Give me your joy that no one can take away. I long to know you more. Come close in my grief. Wrap around me with your peace.
“O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”
1 CORINTHIANS 15:55 ESV
Anyone who has experienced significant loss in life knows the piercing sting of grief. So, what does this verse mean? Is Paul saying that we should ignore the pain of loss? Probably not. In fact, in the following verse, he says, “The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.” We are no longer bound to sin or to the rigid standards of the Old Testament law through Jesus Christ. He is our freedom, and he is our firm foundation.
Even though we will know loss and suffering in this life, they do not define our destinies. We have overcome through the blood of the Lamb, and we are fully and freely accepted as children of God with no blemishes to mar us. He covers us, sanctifies us, and leads us into life. When we grieve, we are not without hope. He is with us in it all, and we will be found with him in his victory for eternity.
Savior, thank you for comforting me in my pain. Thank you for the reminder that sadness is not sin. I give you my heart, full access to all of me. Lead me into greater freedom as I trust you with every part of my life.
“Only fear the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart. For consider what great things he has done for you.”
1 SAMUEL 12:24 ESV
When was the last time you went over your history with God? If you have been walking with him for any length of time, there are breakthrough moments that serve as markers of his faithfulness. In the Old Testament, when God did something miraculous, they would set up stones of remembrance in that place. They served as reminders of God’s power and goodness to his people.
What are your stones of remembrance? What has God done for you? If you are struggling to think of something, ask God to bring it to mind. He is faithful to answer. And do not stop there; read through his Word and see what he has done for those he loves. Those who follow God have a testimony, and you are not exempt from this. May you be filled with gratitude and courage as he reminds you of his faithfulness toward you today.
Faithful Father, bring me back to where you met me with your abundant mercy. Breathe fresh hope and vigor into my heart through the revelation of your faithfulness in my life. As I look back over my journey with you, show me the details I may have missed before.
“Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.”
JOHN 15:4 NIV
What a beautiful invitation we have in fellowship with Jesus. As we remain in him, he gives us his own strength. As we lean on his understanding, he guides us through the twists and turns of life. May we know the incomparable peace of trusting his faithfulness. May we look to him when the worries of this world pile up, for he is above them all.
There is nothing that he does not see clearly. There is no problem too difficult for him. His peace will rule our thoughts as we submit them to him. His grace will empower us and bear fruit in our lives as we continually surrender to his ways. Instead of trying to get through this day with our own strength, what would it look like to rely on Jesus in all things? Let us open the lines of communication, creating an unending stream of prayerful conversation.
Gracious God, thank you for the reminder that I don’t go through this life alone. I don’t need to tire myself out by planting an orchard so that fruit will grow. I am invited to join my life to yours, letting you prune and feed my life so that your abundant fruit will come from it. Thank you!
“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”
LAMENTATIONS 3:24 ESV
In an age of global consumerism, there is always more to do, more to attain, and more to reach for. Sometimes, we project society’s values on our relationship with God, too. Instead of looking to outside sources to satisfy our longings today, what if we looked to God first? He is the true and lasting fulfillment of every longing we could ever have. Every gift in life is an added perk to this.
Let us use this day as our training ground for contentment, not in ourselves, but in God with us. The Lord is our hope, and he is our portion. May we carry this verse in our minds and hearts today, repeating it whenever our will is tested. May he give us deeper revelation of his sufficiency, and may we find greater satisfaction in our fellowship with him as he reveals himself to us.
