The state of Alaska is situated in the northwest direction going toward the state of Washington. The closest largest city is Seattle and that is about a 90 minute flight. The Seattle airport is also the closest one in proximity to Alaska.
Alaska is a big state. When you go to visit, you may be spending as much time getting around as you would to get to Alaska itself. If you’re looking to traveling to different towns, check out what kind of transportation would be the best way to get you there.
You can travel to and around Alaska by road, air, sea or train. Airplanes will fly to the major airports in the state of Alaska. You can also travel on the road by car or use an RV on the byways of the state. You can also travel by cruises and ferries. If the train is your thing, they have that also.
There are areas in Alaska that are so scenic and picturesque. The state has plenty of coastlines. In fact, Alaska has more coastline than any other state in the contiguous 49 states. One of the most popular areas that people like to go to is the marine life area and the tidewater glaciers.
If you want to see more of Alaska, the best way to do it is to go on a cruise. Cruises have been a mainstay in Alaska since the 20th century. There are large ships and small ships that are used for cruises in the state. If you go on a small ship, you will get more attention than you would if you were on a larger ship. However, larger ships offer more amenities like entertainment, shopping and tours.
If you do decide to drive in Alaska, you will find some of the most scenic and picturesque areas ever seen in the United States. Keep in mind that driving in the state of Alaska is limited. This is because some of the areas, such as Juneau, are not connected to the state’s road system.
In that case, you will have to travel to your destinations either by flying or getting on a boat. That’s not a bad idea, because you can see more of what the Alaska has to offer as far as the wilderness, islands and plenty of glaciers. Don’t forget about the animals, especially the bears, which are a common site in the state.
You may also take on day cruises or multi-day cruises, whatever suits your taste. Alaska also has ferries to take you to some of the places that you can’t get to by driving on the limited road system.
Juneau
The city of Juneau is one of the most beautiful cities in the state of Alaska. Not only that, it is also the state’s capital. Juneau is so scenic it has been dubbed “little San Francisco”. The streets in Juneau are narrow and contain new buildings and houses that are slanted.
The interesting thing about this is that they are supported by a bunch of staircases. There is also a water front that has plenty of cruise ships, fishing boats and people that go kayaking. From a distance, you are able to see the snow covered tops of Mt. Roberts and Mt. Juneau. These are a few areas where people trek to go hiking.
The city of Juneau was named after Joe Juneau, who was a gold rush prospector. Juneau is known for its many attractions, in particular wilderness attractions. Admiralty Island National Monument and Glacier Bay National Park are just a few that are located here.
There is a waterfront park located in downtown Juneau called The Marine Park. There is also a historical district that was renovated in the 1980s.
Also located in the downtown area is the State Capitol and the territorial Federal Building. During the summer, people are able to engage in 30 minute tours.
Juneau also has gold mines that you can visit. There are 32 total in the Juneau area. Juneau is also host to the glacier gateway. Within a 1, 500 square mile area, there are 42 glaciers.
