“The Father gives me the people who are mine.
Every one of them will come to me,
and I will always accept them.”
JOHN 6:37 NCV
The LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the
outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.
1 SAMUEL 16:7 NKJV
If God is for us, who can be against us?
ROMANS 8:31 ESV
Before he made the world, God chose us to be his very
own through what Christ would do for us; he decided
then to make us holy in his eyes, without a single fault—
we who stand before him covered with his love.
EPHESIANS 1:4 TLB
It is wonderful, Lord, that you accept me just as I am. I don’t have to try to be something more or prove to anyone that I am adequate. You created me in your image—mind, body and spirit—to live in a loving relationship with you. You are not impressed by my successes or disappointed in my shortcomings. Covered with your love, I am gently conformed to your image. Help me to show this same love and acceptance to my grandchildren.
I pray too, Lord, that my grandkids would embrace this truth—that they would understand that they are unique creations of a loving God who made them just right. Help them not to compare themselves to others or try to be like someone else. Let them be content in who they are.
How does God’s acceptance of you help you to be more accepting of others?
Don’t get angry.
Don’t be upset; it only leads to trouble.
Evil people will be sent away,
but those who trust the LORD will inherit the land.
PSALM 37:8-9 NCV
Everyone should be quick to listen,
slow to speak and slow to become angry,
because human anger does not produce
the righteousness that God desires.
JAMES 1:19-20 NIV
“Don’t sin by letting anger control you.”
Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry.
EPHESIANS 4:26 NLT
Lord Jesus, forgive me for the times I have given my tongue too much liberty and said things that were unkind, unloving, or hurtful. Sometimes to justify myself, I call my anger “frustration” as if the change in semantics makes it any less sinful. So often I jump to conclusions, make judgments, and fail to listen to the whole story. Help me to listen more, slow down my response, corral my tongue, and allow your Holy Spirit to be in charge.
God, at times I see my grandkids get carried away by their anger and behave in ways that are selfish and spiteful. Give their parents patience and wisdom to deal with the outbursts in a mature and godly way. Help them to learn self-control so as they grow, they will not be controlled by anger.
What does it mean to be quick to listen and slow to speak?
You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds
are steadfast, because they trust in you.
ISAIAH 26:3 NIV
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled.
Trust in God, and trust also in me.”
JOHN 14:1 NLT
Give all your worries to him,
because he cares about you.
1 PETER 5:7 NCV
I call out to the LORD when I’m in trouble,
and he answers me.
PSALM 120:1 NIRV
Lord, thank you for peace that passes understanding. It is mine for the taking if I keep my mind focused on you, trust you more, and cast all my worries on you. In difficult moments, it is easy for me to forget how faithful you have been to me in the past. Instead of dwelling on those victories, I tend to ruminate on the unknowns and the what-ifs. So today once again, I throw all of my cares on your shoulders and resolve to let your peace reign in my heart!
My grandchildren have a different set of worries and fears than mine. Theirs revolve around the darkness at night, going to the doctor, mom and dad going away, or the first day of school. I ask that today you would surround them with your peace that settles deep down in their hearts. Remove all fear and give them rest.
What steps can you take to be less anxious and more trusting?
You are altogether beautiful, my darling,
beautiful in every way.
SONG OF SONGS 4:7 NLT
No, your beauty should come from within you—
the beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit that will never
be destroyed and is very precious to God.
1 PETER 3:4 NCV
She puts on strength and honor
as if they were her clothes.
She can laugh at the days that are coming.
PROVERBS 31:25 NIRV
I praise you because you made me
in an amazing and wonderful way.
What you have done is wonderful. I know this very well.
PSALM 139:14 NCV
Throughout my life, God, I have spent much time and money on my outward appearance. You put the desire for beauty in my nature, so looking good is not in itself sinful. But the truth is, beauty comes from within and is reflected outwardly. Help me to develop the beauty of a deeper relationship with you so that your love and kindness would be mirrored on my face. As the years tick by, and age takes its toll, may your beauty be increasingly seen in me.
Jesus, you have created my wonderful grandchildren—thank you for them. As they grow and mature through the years, I pray that they would see themselves as you see them—beautiful. Help them be content with who you made them to be. Help them not to compare themselves to others or despise their reflection, but instead, work on developing true inner beauty through your Word and prayer.
How does it make you feel to think God sees you as beautiful?
Surely, LORD, you bless those who do what is right.
Like a shield, your loving care keeps them safe.
PSALM 5:12 NIRV
Surely you have granted him unending blessings
and made him glad with the joy of your presence.
PSALM 21:6 NIV
Give praise to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ. He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing.
Those blessings come from the heavenly world. They
belong to us because we belong to Christ. God chose us to
belong to Christ before the world was created. He chose
us to be holy and without blame in his eyes. He loved us.
EPHESIANS 1:3-4 NIRV
I am so grateful today, God, for the blessings you continue to pour into my life. Your goodness comes to me in a myriad of ways—through my children and grandchildren, through friends and relatives, but ultimately all from your hand. I am undeserving, especially when I remember the many times I’ve been ungrateful and wallowed in self-pity. Instead of a frown from you, I get a hug from my grandbaby, a slobbery kiss from my preschooler, a helping hand from one of your followers. You continue to amaze me with unexpected joys. Thank you, Jesus.
Teach my grandchildren to be grateful. They have so much more than I ever had as a child, but sometimes the more they have, the more they want. Help their parents to be wise in their giving and careful to teach their kids gratitude.
Which of God’s blessings come to your mind today?
He proclaimed the kingdom of God
and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ—
with all boldness and without hindrance!
ACTS 28:31 NIV
Sinners run away even when no one is chasing them.
But those who do what is right are as bold as lions.
PROVERBS 28:1 NIRV
On the day I called you, you answered me.
You made me strong and brave.
PSALM 138:3 NCV
So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God.
There we will receive his mercy,
and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
HEBREWS 4:16 NLT
How I love your invitation to run to your throne boldly to find the help I need! There is just no God like you. Thank you for giving me strength and courage when I cry out to you. I need boldness to share the Gospel with others; I need strength physically and emotionally when I’m facing a hard time; I need to be brave when you ask me to do something outside of my comfort zone. Standing strong in the middle of a godless culture isn’t easy.
And for my precious grandkids, help them to be strong and brave and willing to stand alone if they must in a world that has no regard for you. They are facing unprecedented pressure to conform. They rub shoulders with peers and teachers who do not know you and are vocal in their unbelief. Make them bold as lions but gentle as lambs.
Why is it sometimes hard to be bold?
If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or
sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love
of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love
with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
1 JOHN 3:17-18 NIV
“I was hungry. And you gave me something to eat. I was
thirsty. And you gave me something to drink. I was a
stranger. And you invited me in. I needed clothes. And
you gave them to me. I was sick. And you took care of me.
I was in prison. And you came to visit me. …The King
will reply, ‘What I’m about to tell you is true. Anything
