ABANDONMENT

“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

The LORD loves justice and fairness; he will never abandon his people. They will be kept safe forever.

Lord, you have called me by name and I am yours. In the midst of suffering, knowing that you are my perfect Father fills me with peace. You meet me in my mess every time; I don’t have to hide from you! Thank you for loving me so completely. I find hope in the promise that you will never abandon me or leave me to sort things out on my own.

When I struggle to see the light in the middle of the darkness of my circumstances, draw closer, Holy Spirit. Surround me with the embrace of your love and whisper your comforting words straight to my heart again. Like a mother’s lullaby soothes her child, so lull my heart into peace as I lean into you. Calm my heart again in your presence.

ABILITY

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.

Gracious God, you are so loving. Your strength is my source when I have no resources of my own left. Your Word says that your power is perfected in weakness; may I find this to be true in my life! When I am weak, then I am really strong because I am leaning into your power that is beyond anything I could muster up. While the rest of the world is bragging about their strengths, may I not fall into that trap. Instead, may I revel in the power you give in my weakness.

I am so limited, Lord. What a mystery that in your kingdom that actually is a benefit! Keep my heart humble in your presence that I would glory in your grace made evident in my life. Have your way in my frailty today.

Holy One, I come to you today with every worry, burden, and anxiety. Some days they are quieter than others; other days the noise level is too loud to hear anything else. I know that I don’t need to carry the weight of these on my own, and I am not responsible to mitigate every possible outcome in life. There are innumerable unknowns, but not one is a mystery to you!

Lord, you see the end from the beginning and every moment in between. Why would I continue to expend energy on assumptive possibilities when you offer me the peace of your all-knowing presence? I may not know what tomorrow holds, but you do. I will trust you, Lord; you can have all my worries! Give me the confidence that comes with your nearness. I know that you are with me.

Can you rest in the knowledge that God sees what you cannot?

ASSURANCE

Lord, you are full of lovingkindness at every moment. Your mercy rushes like a full river from your heart. When I feel like my heart is breaking and there is no silver lining to be found, you pull me close into your compassion and keep me still in the center of your love. Even when I can’t feel you, I know that you are near.

When I have run out of ways to ask for help or the energy to reach out again, you remain faithful to your limitless love and perfect nature. In your mercy, Lord, move in ways that I can’t even imagine. Blow me away with your goodness and reveal yourself through your power at work in my life today. I wait on you.

AUTHENTICITY

What should be our proper response to God’s marvelous mercies? I encourage you to surrender yourselves to God to be his sacred, living sacrifices. And live in holiness, experiencing all that delights his heart. For this becomes your genuine expression of worship. Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.

Father of mercy, in my sorrow I let myself come undone in your presence. I couldn’t hold myself together if I tried. You are patient to sit with me in my discomfort and hold me close in your compassion. You don’t expect me to process the pain I’m experiencing quickly or move on from my sadness rooted in loss. You are the closest comfort I’ve ever known and relief to my soul.

When you support me with your unfailing affection, the strength of your love keeps me rooted in who you are and in who I am in you. As I am loved to life, even in my darkest moments, I lean into your example of boundless mercy. As I experience it, so will I be able to offer it. I trust that in your time, nothing will have been wasted. Use every bit of this and turn it into beauty beyond my imagining.
