Once upon a time there was a Fairy Queen who lived in a magical place called Fairy Dell with all her eager, helpful little fairies. Fairy Dell was situated on the edge of a large forest. The forest was home to all their animal friends, who had their homes at the base of the tall, forest trees. If you looked very carefully, you would see little windows and doors leading into the tree trunks, or opening into tunnels where the animals made their cosy little houses.
One day the Fairy Queen called seven of her fairies and told them that she would like each one of them to perform a good deed for each day of the week. The fairies who stood in front of her were Rose, Daisy, Violet, Bluebell, Buttercup, Snowdrop, and last, but not least, Forget-me-not! And in that order they chose to perform their good deeds. They were to start on Sunday.
On Sunday morning Fairy Rose woke up and she could hear the church bells ringing out, ding dong, ding dong, calling everyone to church. She remembered that Granny Rabbit, who lived alone, was unable to go to church because she was in bed with a bad cold. “I will pay her a surprise visit and cheer her up,” said Fairy Rose. “That will be my good deed for the day.” She set off down the forest path picking wild flowers as she went on her way. By the time she had reached Granny Rabbit’s house she had gathered a colourful bouquet. She knocked on the door but there was no reply, so she gently turned the handle and let herself in. She found Granny Rabbit sitting in bed with a cold flannel on her head, and she was constantly sneezing into a large handkerchief. However, when she saw Fairy Rose with a sweet smile on her face, walking towards her with the lovely flowers she had picked, she began to feel instantly better. Fairy Rose arranged the flowers in a vase and put them on Granny Rabbit’s bedside table. Then she went into the kitchen and made tea for both of them. They sat sipping their tea and nibbling biscuits, gossiping about forest life. How the time flew! When Fairy Rose kissed Granny Rabbit goodbye she said, with a smile on her face, “You know, I’m feeling better already, I think I will get up tomorrow.”
Fairy Rose was delighted that her little act of kindness had been such a comfort to her friend and she could hardly wait to get back to Fairy Dell and tell the other fairies about her special Sunday morning.
