Preface
A book that finally makes things clear on the use of the lunar phases in the cultivation of the vegetable garden, particularly on the periods of seeding.
After having explained as, because and when the moon influences, he takes this datum as reference to calculate with extreme precision the most favorable days to the seeding of every vegetable. The new criteria for the cultivation of vegetables tend to emancipate itself from the need to produce at all costs: they privilege the genuineness of the food and the citizenship of the methods adopted in every phase. It is born so the biological garden, that reaches his/her more advanced point in the synergistic garden. Under these conditions, the plants grow free from any violence by fertilizers, hormones and pesticides of various nature, often used thickly and over the real necessity. You free from the chemical conditionings, and you again submit to earth's cares, sun, water and air, the only things of which you/they have really need, regenerates their sensibility to the delicate influences of the environment as that, opposed and underestimated, of the lunar phases. Certainly, the criteria of industrial exploitation frustrate the delicate caress of the moon. These, however, are effective in natural condition.
This book considers some scientific data as the time of germination and the necessary temperature, besides a since it comes us from the millennial tradition, that of the lunar influence. From the synergy of this information, it derives the calculation of the most proper days for the seeding of every vegetable. The correct attention for the lunar phases makes part of the completely necessary cares to the success of the biological garden, and you can give us the safety to have started well. The plants are sensible to the fond cares, as all the recent studies daily confirm. In their mysterious silence they will exult of joy in to see us arrive among the lines, to they will reciprocate giving us with love their healthy and savory fruits. Even if in incomprehensible way, our plants and we will understand there deeply.

The factors of the calculation.
The temperature of germination
The germination is a prodigious event of the nature, thanks to which a germ of life that he sleeps in the heart of the seed suddenly he wakes up and it starts to live. You inflates, it lacerates the tegument of the seed and it bursts out with formidable energy in the environment that surrounds him/it, it raises him up to emerge from the ground and here, thanks to the light, its marvelous adventure starts.
To start this trial the seed has need of two elements, the damp and the heat. Damp is insured from the ground in which is set, the heat from the environment.
Once emerged, it will also have need some light; subsequently, to hand that the energy furnished by the substance nourishing of the seed exhausts him, it will have need of nourishing substances, that will absorb from the ground.
The seeds of the vegetables do not germinate in the little envelopes because do not have the necessary damp.
Who knows to preserve the seeds, it knows other two conditions to maintain them vital without germinate: you have to keep them in the dark at a low temperature, the average of a garage or a cellar, about 10 ° C.
In addition' obvious that when, instead is wanted, that the seeds bud, you must be sets to the dampness, and surrounded by a temperature that can stimulate a correct germination.
The place is essential to wet the ground, because, after germination, the roots issues that must find food in the environment. The best environment cannot be other than the earth, in which are present in a natural way the chemical elements of which the plant feeds mainly, that is, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, in addition to a whole series of micro-nutrients such as iron, boron, sulfur , manganese, etc.
The temperature is that of the environment, and is generally a mild temperature, for which most of the vegetables can sow them in the spring. They exist, however, also vegetables that prefer fresher temperatures. More under amount carried over a chart with the necessary temperature to every vegetable so that releases in the seed the rubber band of the germination.
In effects, for every vegetable two temperatures of reference exist:
- The middle temperature of growth, that represents the temperature below (or above) which the plant arrests the growth, or it grows in different way, or it dies. This temperature represents an average between the least nighttime and the diurnal motto. Also being possible ample differences between the one and the other, nevertheless none of the two must reach too unbalanced levels in comparison to the average. For absurd, a nighttime temperature of 0 °C and a diurnal of 40 °C damage an average of 20, that would be good for the greatest part of the plants; unfortunately, being too unbalanced, he/she would probably see her very difficultly live or to die.
- The temperature of germination that is that interests this book and it is a so-called temperature "of peak": is necessary to achieve this level even for a limited number of hours per day, so that germination takes place. They stay valid the considerations already sorts on the average, that must be balances.
If you put the plants in the ground and the temperature of germination, it is very different from that application, there can be also very long delays for the birth of the plant, or you/he/she can happen that it is not born. They can also verify him phenomena of pre-flowering that can happen, for the leafy vegetables, that the plants make the seeds before producing the consumable parts.
The temperature of germination must not be that that we perceive us in the air, on the contrary that that you/they perceive the seeds in the ground that is usually lower. In sowing outdoors, you can improve the soil temperature making it blacker. This is gotten with the addition of compost, material organic or material biological dark, as coffee's dust used, both with the mulching of the flower beds so that the material of coverage you heat the underlying ground.
You is able to mulch covering the flowerbeds of cultivation with straw, paper, sawdust, or with the available agricultural cloths in the Garden Center. Biodegradable types also exist of it.

Time of the emergence
For convenience and for greater understanding, in this book do coincide the time to emergence from the soil with the germination time. You expresses with a number that points out how many days are necessary.
Exceptions are some vegetables that you need to do pre-germinate in the light, such as potatoes. These vegetables are buried when you bud they were already born. In this, case the time necessary to emerge from the soil, the need to add to the germination time.
Every kind of vegetable has different times that can vary from 5 days as the lettuce to 20-30 days as the parsley. The necessary time to the germination is essential to the calculation of the precise day of seeding. Here under a chart with the middle time for every vegetable.

The phase of the Moon
The first known lunar calendar dates back to 20,000 years ago, when our first parent drew on a bone of signs, which archaeologists have identified as the recording of the movements of the moon in the sky. Conducting these elementary surveys the men of Cro-Magnon they noticed the periodicity of the phenomenon and they were soon able to foresee with certainty the regular phases of the moon.
The cultivation done on the base of the lunar phases wants to exploit to the best the effects that the moon practices on the vegetables. In addition' undeniable that effects of the moon, also very evident, manifests him on all the earth, and on the various aspects of the terrestrial life.
The most evident example is that of the tides, that succeed in moving enormous masses of water allowing so the vital cycle of many small beings that, they live to the limit of the water. They draw from the change among low and tall tide their occasions of feeding (hunting and pasture) and often of defense for the survival.
The tidal effect becomes measurable especially in seawater, due to high volumes. The same effect also acts on small and very small reserves of liquid. In these certainly do not measure and you cannot see it with the naked eye, but there is, even if limited to microscopic size.
This "tidal effect" occurs certainly in plants. That is, the plants and all other beings, animate or inanimate, which circulates the liquid, suffering from the effects of the moon.
The sap is able particularly "to climb" or "to go down" along the stem as the water of the sea; and an influx of faster and abundant sap, naturally has an effect that can be also violent on the organs in which it flows: leaves, flowers, fruits.
Another characteristic of the moon that influences the vegetation is its red light. As known in the scientific environment, the atmosphere has the tendency to filter the lunar brightness stopping a great deal the ultraviolet component more than that infrared: from here the well-known phenomenon of the "red moon." Well, this red component has the power to penetrate in the ground, stimulates the seeds and she produces a healthier and strong germination.
With what criterion is chosen the lowering moon or that increasing
You chooses a determined period because he believes that the moon, in those days, can have an effect that favors the more possible and it hinders the less possible the development of our plants, for a best production.
The experience of millennia has taught to discern when the increasing moon or the lowering moon can give advantage to the cultivations. Many approximate methods exist for choosing the period of seeding. A method recommends the lowering moon for the plants that produce under the ground (turnips, potatoes) and the increasing moon for the other plants.
