ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Cheryl Strayed, born on September 17, 1968, is an American memoirist, novelist, and essayist. She grew up in Minnesota and then moved to Oregon. After her mother's death, she struggled to cope with the loss, and this led to her experimenting with drugs and having several failed relationships.

In 1995, Strayed enrolled at the University of Minnesota and later transferred to the University of Oregon. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 2002. After her studies, she began writing for various publications, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Vogue.

Strayed is best known for her memoir Wild, which was adapted into a film starring Reese Witherspoon in 2014. The book chronicles Strayed's solo hike along the Pacific Crest Trail and how it helped her deal with the loss of her mother and other personal struggles. The memoir was a New York Times bestseller and was later adapted into a film.

Strayed has also written several other books, including Tiny Beautiful Things, which is a collection of advice columns she wrote under the pseudonym "Sugar" for The Rumpus. She currently lives in Portland, Oregon, with her husband and two children.
