The neighborhood post office has a staff of twenty mail carriers and mail women who serve the community with a population of about 10,000 customers, six days a week. One of the mail carriers was voted by the community as the mail carrier of the year because of the contribution he made to the lives of the clients in his area. He served his customers above and beyond the call of duty through random acts of service to the sick and needy. The mail carrier who received this reward was named George Mullin.
George had worked for the post office for over ten years. He was stationed in an old town called Farmland. In the early 1800s, the town was surrounded by farmland with animals such as horses, cows, goats, and pigs. The farmers grew vegetables such as grapes, corn, and yams. In 1928, two wealthy businessmen bought the land and built homes, schools, and small businesses in a more modern town. Over the years, the town developed into a residential and business community.
His route covered 400 homes and businesses in the town. The roads along the route were mostly long, with houses on both sides and a population of about 1,000 made up of all ages, races, religions, and ethnicities. George loved his customers, whom he had served for over five years, and they loved him too. If George were sick and unable to go to work, his customers would call the post office to find out how he was doing, and some even sent him to get well cards and gifts. The community thought that George was the best mailman they had ever had, so they treated him well.
