Chapter 1

With her eyes locked on the towering alien spacecraft above, Ava rushed in the direction of the resistance fighters while her pulse raced. With each passing second, the sound of their motors became louder, and she realized they were running out of time.

She stopped in front of the warriors and cried, "Please, you have to assist me.

Xander approached her while looking all over her. He questioned, "What's your name?"

She responded, "Ava," with tiny intakes of air. I know what's coming because I watched what occurred in the skies.

Xander nodded, his face seeming solemn. We've spent a lot of time getting ready for this day, he remarked. But we could appreciate any assistance we can receive.

His remarks gave Ava a glimpse of optimism. They may be able to prevent the aliens from destroying all she cared about.

Her voice was slightly trembling as she questioned, "What do you need me to do?"

Xander fixed her with a firm stare as he glanced at her. We need every bit of assistance, he said. But you have to be prepared to battle; it won't be easy, and there's a significant probability that not everyone will survive.

Ava paused briefly as she considered what she stood to lose. She then began to consider her friends, family, and the life she had created for herself. She was unable to see it all fall apart.

She responded in a calm voice, "I'm in.

With a little grin playing at the corners of his lips, Xander nodded. Excellent, he said. So, let's go to work, I say.

As they rushed to acquire weapons and supplies, the resistance fighters sprang into action. Ava saw them as they moved quickly and efficiently, each individual aware of their position in the coming conflict.

A young lady handed Ava a laser rifle and said, "Here." It's not much, but it will suffice.

Ava took the revolver and examined the charge before saying, "Thanks."

Xander came up to her and showed seriousness. We have to act quickly, he remarked. "The aliens won't wait until we're prepared,"

Although her heart was racing, Ava nodded. She couldn't imagine that she would be participating in an extraterrestrial invasion. Yet she was resolved to take whatever measures were necessary to save her planet, her family, and her home.

Ava had an adrenaline rush as the resistance warriors were ready to start their assault and felt exhilaration fill her body. The time she had been waiting for had finally here. The time when she would either succeed or perish trying.

She led Xander to the alien spacecraft and stated, "Let's do this," in a calm manner. The conflict had started.

When they got closer to the enormous alien spacecraft, Ava's heart was thumping in her chest. They were sleek and black, with bizarre patterns engraved onto their sides, and she had never seen anything like them before.

With his laser rifle ready, Xander took the lead. In a quiet voice, he said, "Stick close to me." Aim for the symbols on the ship since there is where they are most vulnerable.

With her own laser rifle in her hand and a nod, Ava tensed up. Fear was beginning to take hold as she felt the beads of perspiration forming on her forehead. Yet she suppressed it in order to concentrate on the job at hand.

Ava saw the aliens assembling around the ship's entrances to protect their spacecraft as they got closer to them. They possessed heads that seemed out of proportion to their bodies and were taller than any humans she had ever seen.
