Penalty Company #2 Subversive Denial

Chapter 1

Adel dried her hair sitting down on the queen sized bed in her "new" room. They had to abandon the old compound because ECHO invaded it. Luther was doing damage control at Pasha Tech while her and the rest of the combined teams of Bioteam and Deus Espada settled in to their new surroundings. This time they were nestled outside eastern Daax deep under the rocky terrain of Dugan Flats. In a sick way it was good ECHO all out attacked them, it served better than any memory she could ever recall.

The enemy she thought dead instead was alive and thriving off of the Federal Union's arrogance. These troopers and drones were preliminary, she was worried about their bosses. It was federal interference that destroyed her world in the first place. The Sere had formed an alliance with the Terrans against her people because they weren't physically powerful enough to go to war with The Dirians. Diria was collateral damage and she was marooned on Earth. No home to go back to.

Luther had been great taking her in, protecting her,and being her friend. She was very fond of Luther, but like she would regard a brother. Kind of like him and June who's family were close and they grew up together. June had been her best friend from the start. They immediately connected and became thick as thieves. It had been a tough adjustment but with joining Luther and the others on Bioteam she had found purpose and a use for her skills as a warrior. She was happy though she bitterly missed Diria.

At first she wanted to hate all Terrans. Luther and June had shown her that all Humans weren't greedy evil bigots. Her other teammates Zan Takiara and Becky Sanders had been away guarding Luther's sister Jasmine. She had been evacuated to the King's private island till things blew over. She was fifteen she didn't need to see what was going to happen next. Luther's parents were there and overjoyed to see her. She hoped they could enjoy their retirement and they could stop the enemy cold in their tracks. So much to consider, yet she found her thoughts drifting back to one Michael Korvin.

When she last saw him he was returning the vial he'd stolen from Pasha Tech. That was three days ago. In eavesdropping she'd gathered that he had gone after his brother Seth. Even for someone as skilled as Michael that was no small feat. It was no small feat for an army. After seeing Michael in action she couldn't doubt his ability to do so. had he reconsidered their alliance? Was it all a ruse to get the serum for his nephew? If that was the case why bring back the other isotope? Why show his face to them? No, she'd looked into his eyes. Eyes like those didn't budge, they didn't know how.

If he called you an ally you were an ally to the end. He never acted like the men she'd known in the past. He didn't need to announce who he was, it spoke for itself. She couldn't deny him or the fact that she thought of him more and more and she didn't know why. She suddenly felt a chill run through her innards. The Black Orchid League was on ECHO's list. Had they deployed against them already? Quickly she dressed pulling on her black combat boots. She jogged to the war room where Tout was looking at four floating four dimensional screens. Tout typed away as she watched four live feeds of ECHO and their progress citywide. "What's the word?' Adel asked crossing her arms trying to seem casual.

"Your intel has been most helpful, but ECHO is on the move, only the Laconi Family and The Black Orchid League haven't been attacked." "Any word from Ravenshire?" "Seth's been assembling his forces and . Piper has been "filling in" as second in command it looks like she's even wearing Michael's mask." Tout said plainly. She saw the look in Adel's eyes change. As much as she cared about Luther but he didn't notice , because he was focused on Adel. It seemed she wasn't being flaky she was infatuated with Michael Korvin. "I didn't mean..." Adel waved her off. "You needn't mince words." Adel responded her face hardening. Tout saw the anguish and confusion Adel was trying to hide. Suddenly she wanted to comfort her, but knowing Adel's proud warrior spirit she would never allow it. "I don't want to be at odds with you Adel." "This about Luther?" "Yes." "You care for him, I see it. He's probably the only one who doesn't. You two match well. I'm not the correct fit for Luther." "I appreciate that, no idea how to broach the subject though." "Give him time, he has a lot to focus on." Adel said with a smile.

"Speaking of right fits." June cooed as she entered from the corridor. Adel's eyes narrowed. "Don't start." "Start? Start what?" June said feigning ignorance. "June." Tout smirked going back to her research. June trailed behind Adel who nodded to Tout as she exited the war room.

Michael Korvin hung in chains beneath Ravenshire. Around him was nothing but darkness. He had no idea what Seth was doing or why he hadn't killed him when he had the opportunity. He hadn't had food or water in days it seemed. Maybe Seth was going to leave him to rot and die beneath the catacombs of Ravenshire's main hall. He had served his purpose and completed his task. Ziggy and Ashli were safe and away from the coming turmoil. He had acted too late. Because of is inaction his entire squad would be put to death. Most likely right before his eyes, Seth was cruel like that.

This wasn't over, Arlen was just the start. How could he not see this coming? How could he allow Piper Lawrence to be so influential? Around them the world was descending into madness and the very foundations of his family were being shaken. He couldn't just hang here in the darkness. Seth had crossed a line he could never uncross, and it was time for him to meet The Wraith.

Chapter 2

Daniel Konnor looked out of his office window at the heart of Sanguine's Mayfield Concourse. Surrounded by Daax this was the true center of the continent. ECHO troopers marched through the halls of building 12 where the president's office was located on the ninth floor. Everything was operating according to plan, all of Daax was secured except for Ravenshire. It was all flowing and soon the Atlas Initiative would soon extend back overseas to Beryl. Soon they would be in control of the world again.

"Enjoying the view Mr. President?" a female voice said behind him. He looked over his shoulder seeing a tall female with ponytailed blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. It was Pickitt Dimchev Prof. Haash Dimchev's twin sister. She was all of six feet two inches wearing a grey business suit. Her eyes focused on the president almost catlike as she scrutinized him. She wore a smile that chilled his very being. It was too perfect. "I am. Your operators are effective to say the least." "We appreciate the contract, my brother only approves contracts he deems just. We understand there's more work in the east?" "Beryl, is a warzone. Rogue Vicissians are running wild all over. Most of the narrative has been shifted to the Decampment leader Waarp or Rain Man." President Konnor reported.

Pickitt smiled. "Sounds terrible, the team is ready once we clean up here, Ravenshire is on our to do list at 0300. We will surround and eliminate The Black Orchid League once and for all." "Very good commander, I look forward to your After Action Review." President Konnor said his hands behind his back. Pickitt smirked again her frosty pupils flashing. Daniel Konnor adjusted his tie. Everything was going according to plan.

Piper Lawrence slinked down into the catacombs of Ravenshire where the prisoners were kept. It wasn't often that Seth took prisoners, she was most pleased that he'd decided to spare Michael. She wasn't finished with him. After all, he was hers, always had been. She never let anyone stand in the way, even when he had his so called awakening five years prior. He used to be ruthless and cunning. They had gone toe to toe with the Skarlet Army and the Laconi Family. Now he was out here sparing people left and right. He had his head corrupted by that bitch Ashli and her pathetic child.

She was careful not to let Seth impregnate her because she knew one day Michael would come around and she'd bear his perfect child. He was the superior Korvin, always had been. A god with swords, his hands and feet. He would see, she was his perfect mate. Slowly she opened the door to his cell light spilling onto the floor and filling the room as she lit a torch. Michael's cobalt blue eyes burned into her soul. He could feel it too couldn't he? "Michael, darling. We need to get you free." she said quietly. He continued to glare hanging by his wrists. The manacles had to be chafing by now. "Say something my love." she said reaching for his face.
