She put her suitcase down at the luggage counter, handed the reservations agent her ticket, and turned to look over her shoulder at the bench where the sailor was sitting. Their eyes met quickly and he smiled, nodding his head just enough to indicate that he, too, was feeling the vibrations. Janis lowered her eyelids and gave back a sultry, promising smile.

"You're going to Tobinville?" the agent asked.

Not hearing him, her full attention directed at the sailor and the little game their eyes were playing as each scanned the other's body, Janis ignored the question.

"Miss? Miss!" The agent tapped her shoulder and Janis jumped in surprise. "Your destination is Tobinville?"

"That's what it says on the ticket, isn't it?" she cracked.

"I just wanted to make certain there was no mistake."

"The only mistake," she said with a touch of bitterness to her voice, "is that I am going there, not that I'm not."

The agent gave her a blank look for a moment, then went back to scribbling notations on her ticket. "That's one-way, right?"

'Tm afraid so," Janis sighed. "At least for now."

The man gave her a wan smile and handed back the ticket. "Give this to the driver when you board," he said. "That will be gate number ten, loading in about eighteen minutes."
