Dreams are an admonition and good tidings - and above all an inspiration for our lives! This comprehensive reference work contains the collected knowledge of Islamic dream interpreters from various centuries, which the author has meticulously collected, evaluated and written down over many years. It thus gives readers in German and English-speaking countries access to the centuries-old knowledge of the Islamic cultural sphere. The dream interpretations, from A for Abdest (Islamic ritual ablution) to Z for Zulkifl (the prophet Ezekiel), serve as inspiration, show the diversity of this discipline and at the same time convey a definite knowledge of the importance attributed to dreaming in Islamic culture.

Foreword
What is a dream according to Islam?
The meanings of the abbreviations in this book
Bibliography
I thank fate for allowing me to venerate books, to appreciate them and giving me the opportunity to write them myself. I probably intend to devote myself to them again and again throughout my life.
My concern is to impart beautiful knowledge from the Islamic world to people from all cultures worldwide and to make it accessible to them.
It is also my concern to encourage Muslims to be more open to the rest of the world and to learn from the world, not to isolate themselves.
My main concern, however, is: freedom, democracy and human rights for all. I always pursue this concern and convey the inestimable value of these pillars to the entire world.
Today, I do not see myself as a strict Muslim. I see myself as a human being who is a part of everyone. So I am a Jew, a Christian, a Muslim, a Hindu and a Buddhist at the same time. My motto is: I am a part of everyone! I learn from everyone! And I want a positive and liveable world for all! With the pillars mentioned above, nothing in life is impossible for a motivated person, and all the obstacles in the world can be overcome to fulfil one’s mission in life.
This book has been translated from Turkish dream interpretation books and from selected dream interpretations.
The three main dream interpreters are:
Imam Nablusi
Ibn-i Sirin and
Seyyid Suleyman.
Other important dream interpreters I have considered in this book are:
Cafer-i Sadik
Ibn Kesir
Salimi and
Kirmani.
I cannot guarantee that these dream interpretations will come true. The reader should rather see the interpretations as a source of inspiration and consider a different view of things.
I wish you a pleasant read, and send my warmest greetings to all seekers and lovers of truth!
Pinar Akdag
If a Muslim wants to interpret different dreams, we need to get clear that there are numerous different divisions of dreams according to Islam.
There are two divisions that the sources generally accept. These classifications are true dreams and non-true dreams.
1. True dreams: according to Islamic culture, there are true dreams whose source is divine. True dreams are rarely seen by humans because there are non-true dreams. In Islam, dreams are important as long as they are truthful. Even for the Prophet Mohammed (s. a. v.), dreams were considered a reminder, good news, inspiration or a message. Truthful dreams are divided into five sub-categories:
a. Clear truthful dreams: examples of such dreams are dreams of the Prophet Mohammed or of other prophets, such as Yusuf.
b. Divine good news as a truthful dream: either such dreams represent the good of man, or they may be a prediction of good deeds yet to be performed.
c. Veracious dream from an angel: angels engaged in this activity have the task of communicating to humans the truths communicated to them from the divine plane.
d. Soul dreams: these dreams are shown by souls from the soul realm. The souls have the task of giving people truthful dreams.
e. All other true dreams: the dreamer immediately knows that the dream he or she has seen is extraordinary.
2. Non-true dreams: non-true dreams are all dreams that do not belong to the true dreams. Non-true dreams have no divine source. They are divided into seven subgroups:
a. Dreams that correspond to the desires, longings and urges of the individual.
b. Sexual dreams in which the person dreaming is highly stimulated.
c. Dreams shown by the devil to frighten a pious person.
d. Dreams that show demons or sorcerers to distress people.
e. Dreams shown by the devil himself.
f. Dreams that people see because of distress, sadness, stress and similar negative feelings.
g. Dreams that have already happened to people and that they see again in their dreams.
However, in Islamic sources, according to the tradition of Avf Ibni Malik, it is said that dreams are divided into three parts according to the Prophet Mohammed. One part is dreams shown by the devil to frighten or distress people. Another part is dreams that people see about issues that concern them. And a third part are true dreams that come from divine source.
1. Divine dreams: when talking about dreams in Islam, the first thing that comes to the mind of scholars is this dream. These dreams have a divine source or are transmitted by angels. Prophets, Islamic scholars and pious people see such dreams. These dreams are good news, are meant to set one on the right path again, are a message or news.
2. Devilish dreams: this dream arises because the devil misleads, instils distrust or frightens the dreaming person. These dreams should not be interpreted, and moreover, the dreaming person should not pay any attention to them and should not be influenced by them. Rather, persons with this type of dreams should turn more towards good.
3. Dreams of the nef: according to Islam, nefs are the instincts of man, the self, the ego. Accordingly, the self causes the dreams. These dreams deal with things that occupy the dreaming person during the day.
The Islamic sources divide the dreams of the Hadith (so in accordance with the statement of the Prophet Mohammed), into seven sub-categories.
I. Truthful dreams: these are dreams from a divine source, often representing glad tidings.
II. Dreams of the self: the I, the self is preoccupied with various issues during the day, which it processes during sleep.
III. Dreams of the devil that cause grief: these are dreams that do not please the person dreaming and cause distress.
IV. Dreams of the self because of desires: here the person dreams because of his desires and cravings shown to him by the self.
V. Dreams as an amusement of the devil: in a hadith, the Prophet Mohammed says: ‘If in a dream the devil amuses himself with you, do not tell it to anyone.’
