John 10:10 is a very popular verse of the bible yet it is one of the most superficially interpreted, and that is very expensive. I have watched people use the verse in prayer sessions and in bible study sessions, still the thief continues to steal, kill and destroy what he is out to steal, kill and destroy.

Believers have for so long, or too long, if I may say, protected the wrong things from being stolen, killed, and destroyed while neglecting the real deal that need their protection.

This book, The Life, reveals what is to be protected, and it explains how it is being stolen, killed and destroyed so that believers can be guarded.

Introduction

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. John 10:10 NKJV

I believe that you are familiar with John 10:10 because it is a very popular passage of the bible that Christians quote. And you probably don’t have questions concerning that single verse. Well, I had a lot of questions on that verse of the bible, and I know that by the time I share my questions with you, you will also want to get answers to those questions.

When I was a child between ages seven and nine, this verse started coming up in my heart over and over again, may be because it is a popular verse that people quote a lot and my Sunday School teachers make me memorize it. Being very inquisitive, I started wondering, “If the thief comes to steal, there must be something to steal. If the thief comes to kill, there must be something to kill. And if the thief comes to destroy, there must be something to destroy.” Then the answer came in the same verse and I thought, “Ok, the thief comes to steal life, and that is why Jesus said that He has come to restore the stolen life to man.” When I got that answer, I went to rest and I prayed like most Christians that God should not allow my life to be stolen, killed or destroyed. However, another problem came up in the same book of John in chapter 3 verse 16. It says,

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

I thought, “But it is only a person who lives that can believe. That means there is a life apart from this normal breathing in and breathing out.” Then I started hunting for answers. “What is this life that Christ restores to mankind, and if it is a restoration, then it means that mankind had the life and it was stolen, killed or destroyed. At what point was it stolen, killed or destroyed?”

Now, I think I’ve triggered your curiosity. Now that I’ve got a better understanding of what Jesus meant by the word “life”, I’ve always searched to see how many believers are living that life even though it has been restored to them. And again I saw another passage of the bible coming true, and that is 2 Corinthians 6:1, it says,

We then, as workers together with Him also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain. NKJV

NLT says, “As God’s partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God’s kindness and then ignore it.” However, I see believers receiving the grace of God in vain by ignoring it. But how won’t the grace or the life He gives be ignored if it is not known? This is why I am glad to write this book in which the very life that God gives, that could be stolen, killed or destroyed, and that Jesus restores is revealed. So, fasten your seatbelt and enjoy your ride through the revelation contained in this book. I want you to key yourself into living the life that God gives and show that life to everyone around you so that they can also live their God-given lives.

This Life

Now that you know that the life that Christ gives is not the breathing in and out that you now do, else there would have been no need for Jesus’ coming to the earth and dying to give us life. Life as Jesus implied is what God wants us to live, and until you are able to know what this life is, you may not be able to live it, hence receiving the gift of God in vain. God revealed the life He gives to mankind when He created him as is recorded in Genesis 1:26-28 &31

Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”

So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.”

Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good!

And evening passed and morning came, marking the sixth day.

Genesis 1:26-28, 31

God created man to live a life, a life that involves being fruitful, multiplying, replenishing and subduing the earth and everything in it as well as at the end pleasing Him. Jesus said, “…that whoever believes in Him should not perish…” What does it mean to perish, since that is the state of every person that has fallen a victim to the thief? To perish is not to live the life that Christ came to restore to man. So, let’s know this life.

Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. Proverbs 29:18 KJV

“Perish” is the same as “death”. NLT uses the phrase “run wild”, NRSV uses “cast off restraint”, The Message uses “stumble over themselves”, GNT uses “without order”, and ERV uses “lose self-control” in the place of perish. This means that the life that Jesus came to restore to mankind is a coordinated life; a life of self-control. God’s children are leaders because they are the light of the world, but nobody that lacks self-control can lead, not even a good life of his own. Jacob made that as clear as crystal when he talked to Rueben in Genesis 49:4.

And how does Christ give mankind a self-controlled life? It is by giving mankind a reason to live; a purposeful life. A purposeful life is the life that does not perish.

Now, what is vision according to other English translations of the bible? Vision is “divine guidance” according to NLT, “prophecy” according to NRSV, “seeing what God is doing” according to the Message, it is being ordered by God according to GNT, and it is being “guided by God” according to ERV. This means life is seeing what God is doing and keying into it. To live the life that Christ gives it to live fulfilling God’s purpose for your existence. And God’s purpose for everybody is different. However, at the end, every purpose fulfilled gives God pleasure as it is recorded in Genesis 1:31.

How can you get a vision?

There are three ways that have proven to be effective in catching God’s purpose for one’s life, and they are well stated in the bible. The three ways are
