Hans Aßmann von Abschatz was born on February 4, 1646 as the son of a provincial official of the Principality of Liegnitz . He came from a Silesian noble family documented since 1294 and was baptized as aProtestant . His youth was marked by unhappiness and loss. At the age of four, Abschatz fell ill with smallpoxand lost his father in the same year. When the hereditary castle caught fire in Würbitz , the boy was only just saved from the fire . Finally, when he was 13, his mother, Margarete von Kanitz, died.

From 1658 to 1664 Abschatz attended high school in Liegnitz . As a student, he already showed poetic talent in school performances and wrote his first poems, some of which he published as individual prints. The estate school was followed bylaw and language studies in Strasbourg and Leiden (as a student Abschatz wrote the love poems Anemons and Adonis Blumen ), then from 1666 a three-year journey through the estates of the Netherlands , France ( Paris ) and Italy ( Rome , Terracina, Naples , Florence , Venice ). Abschatz also processed the goods travel impressions in his poems.
