I am privileged to know Chris Govender as my wise tutor, friend, and confidante for many years. I count it an honour to write this opening for his first book 'Destined for Greatness'. ‘I wish I had never done that. If only that had never happened! I’d love to wipe that from my memory’

These are some of the agonizingly remorseful statements that are often emotionally uttered by those who wish that certain of their life’s experiences had never happened. It seems dreadfully unfair when the past continuously and unwelcomingly imposes itself into the serenity of the present, doesn’t it? It seems even more unfair and becomes painfully tragic when the past clouds one’s perception of the future. Wouldn’t you love to rip a few pages from your book, tear them to pieces and watch them blow away in the wind, never to be seen again? I think that we all would love to, but can it be done…?

Let me emphatically state that it can be done. Now, you must determine that it will be done. Your past will be redeemed. It is absolutely in order, to acknowledge that your past cannot be changed. The question that then demands an answer is:

‘What does one do with that which cannot be changed?’

How does one recover from one terrible decision that continues to annoyingly peek into the tranquillity of the present?

How do we remove a root of bitterness that further entrenches itself with each memory of the perpetrator?
