INTRODUCTION
Perhaps at some point in our lives, we would want to amend the mistakes that brought trouble not only to ourselves but to the people that we hurt. Most of us are similar to the world we live in, and in our modern times, the most common thoughts that will usually remind us are those biographies of the writer, why he or she thought to write and share his life. Honestly, I don't like to read books or write things when it comes to my personal life. I started writing these simple but serious things in my life in 2013, but up to now, I haven't finished it yet. The reason why I wrote this journal was because of the community that me and my family are going through and, at the same time, how our lives are exposed in this form of petty corruption. But I was more inspired to continue, basically because of fear and anxiety about what it may bring in the future. Later, I will give more emphasis on the circumstances that I’m pointing to and somehow remind our civilians understanding of how it could affect the lives and the way we adapt this to our personal lives. This act of whistle blowing was my personal decision, and my family members and other relatives do not have any attachment to this. Courage and strong will, along with good intentions, to allow myself to stand and do what is just for the people, our freedom, our democracy, and what is really states on our Philippine constitution. Throughout history, our slogan has usually been, "The youth are the hope of our nation." Every first quarter of the year, there are new graduates from different schools. There are groups of degree holders in each institution, whether they are newly elected officers from public or private entities. Our youth are the hope of our nation. However, at every pace of life face, there are many practices that combine common cultural and physical exercises. By a simple analogy, there are acts that are not part of our legal system that are being processed, developed, and passed on to every generation. This is the common culture of deception and dishonesty that most of our government tolerates, whether from the media, public or private institutions. It's been part of the system in doing transactions, but sad to say, it is not legal nor pertaining to any Republic Acts or related laws. It could be more considered as a culture with corrupted behavior and norms by different civilians. It is a global crisis that needs to be addressed by many of us if we want to reduce the problematic corruption, civil war, drugs, money laundering, and others. What should our parents do to stand against corrupt behavior? There were activities that were tempting, violent, and against our legal rights. One of the reasons why I’m also hesitant to continue these is because of the sensitivity that might open and give expansion through the minds of everyone. The pages which I have written have their own evidence, but up to this moment, I am still searching for simple words to encourage everybody to stand and do their part in advocating our battle against corruption. I'd like to share these thoughts in order to achieve true freedom by narrowing and putting more accountability on every civilian in every type of malpractice lingering around our society, developing municipalities, and cities that we can't even notice or stop. I included our government's structure and the various laws enshrined in our constitution. We need to accept the fact that we are still in the early stages of development and many of us are still ignorant when it comes to our constitutional laws. Such as Republic Act 386 Chapter 2 Human Relations and the Philippine Constitution, Article III Section 3, which pertain to our right to privacy. There are large groups of people, and even families, who engage in these acts in a contradictory manner and use them as a way of life. Most of the time, we ignore these acts. And the people who facilitate contradicting ways will try to propagate their corrupt exercises until we are now influenced by these corrupted behaviors. And this is the reason why most of us are distant when it comes to our related laws. In everyday life, it is seldom acknowledged and strictly implemented, like in the Public Attorney’s Office, lawyers', and notary offices. In fact, even school teachers and government officials don't give our citizens a major emphasis and explanation of what it means and the importance of complying with these laws.
Every now and then, I tried watching a program about anti-corruption practices, and one of the Filipino programs I downloaded was entitled "Psychology of Corruption" by TV 5 (Bilang Pilipino 2016, Anong say mo!) The program was for the coming election in our country. I had this deeper advocacy from the time I watched the program. Simple program, but packed with constructive criticism for our country and civilians. Because of the program, it opened my mind to understand what is happening inside a person and why it becomes a social norm and cultural behavior. Today we live in a community where there are different forms of practices that are being conducted and have a regular routine day by day. Before I go deeper, please give me time to introduce myself. I’m 40 years old, a single man, and have never had my own family. I did not have time to flirt, maybe because of the struggles our parents had experienced, so as much as possible, I am more comfortable being alone with God and Jesus. Right now I’m working in the BPO as a representative for Globe clients. This was my first time working in the industry. My previous job was in retail, and I lasted in this industry for over 11 to 13 years. My last employer was at Toy 'R Us, the world's greatest toy store. Maybe most of you are very familiar with this retail store. You heard it right, this company was the rivalry of SM's Toy Kingdom. I do know if you are a new baby boomer customer or employee, and the competition is a bit changed by now. In a small company, Kids Gallery and Infant Product Gallery Corp., I worked as an associate and a concessionaire. Our products that we provide are generally battery operated cars and assorted toy products with generic brands that come from other foreign countries. I’d known several talented employees who I'd been with for many years and up to this day. On one hand, there are those frequent customers who will give you an extra tip as long as they appreciate the service you gave them, and on the other hand, there are those frequent customers who will make some employees feel down. Others will make you smile and laugh, but you must always be aware of those customers who will adopt your human personality. I’m the youngest of the two. Me and my elder sister. Right now, our date and time is March 25, 2020, and a lot of things are happening. To be specific about the event, it has been 2 weeks since we were quarantined at home and this was because of the Corona Virus or COVID-19. I attempted once more to write and finish my story. From this moment, I was inactive at my present job because of the pandemic that affected most of our country and the whole continent. But it was a privilege because of the time I had to spend with my family and attend other courses where I could improve some of my skills. This event almost put everybody on hold. A lot of businesses and employees stopped and closed their establishments because a large number of our civilians were put in home quarantine because of the deadly virus. It was deadly because the majority of front-liners, in medicine and other businesses, risked their lives just to provide services, and a growing number of people had passed away because of the virus. So while I’m continuing to write in the journal of my life, another tragedy comes to our country. Before this event, I made a few lists of unforgotten events in Philippine history: Typhoon Yolanda (Typhoon Haiyan) made landfall on November 8, 2013. Pope Francis' visit on January 15, 2015. Different earthquakes in our country, from the last quarter of 2019 up to the first quarter of 2020. Mayon volcano's eruption and crater glow from January 30 to March 1, 2020 Did you know that every word and sentence my mind could think of, there were also intruders who tried to intimidate and make irritating voices or sounds like hammering of walls, loud voices, smashing of doors, or utensils from the time I continued my journal? And these practices are part of the profound cultural and institutional corruption in our society.
Chapter 1 Reminiscing Childhood Days
My parents are only ordinary citizens of their native land. My father and his siblings was all native Ilocano’s, who tried their luck in Manila during their time. Fortunately, their eldest, was lucky enough because of hard work, compassion and dedication in her job in reality estates. Our Aunt and her husband save and invest their house somewhere in Pasig. With regards to our Mother, she is a native woman who grew up in Pangasinan. My mother had intimacy with her first husband and had their first family. But their marriage did not last. We are the second family of our Mother. I will give more of the details about what happen to our Mom in the last part of my story. Since I was in elementary, most of my classmates during those time, their parent have other family or some of them is now abandoned. Today, in modern time, I guess broken families was just too common to any parents or young parents , compared in the past this has been part of the revolution thru out family cycle. In terms of the tools, culture, education, religion, lifestyle and the other things we need to develop, our Filipino families, our nation still needing of guidance but not to the extent that even wrong practices in married life will be inherited and passess through. Republic Act 386 Title III, Chapter 1 Requisites of Marriage.
My elementary or preparatory years. I remember during my elementary days, instead of studying the lessons of the subject by our teachers, I used to be with friends or classmates where our daily routine was to play different (street game) like playing billiard, biking, basketball, others like strolling to malls or traveling to other villages to compete street games. Elementary was one of the happiest part of my life. Please do not think that i want to brag, but even though I love going out with friends and doing what we wanted. I’m still fortunate as a student at Dela Paz Elementary School because I am one of those students who would always be selected to participate and compete in various quiz bee contests, such as in (Math, English, Filipino and Science and Technology). During those years, I was able to attend in different schools quiz bee competition in the following municipalities of Pasig, Marikina, Valenzuela and Quezon City. Even though I like going with my friend and have fun with them, I still gave time on my studies. Not all kids have this kind of privilege, most of my acquaintances of my classmates, if you experience to study in public school ? Some of them even at the young age would now make ways to earn money and to help their family. Others would sell packs of cigarettes and in the morning they would help their parent’s do household chores. Some of them would sell newspapers, old and used bottles, rugs and anything else where it could generate income and help their family. Our life during those years are just enough for us. My dad used to worked in a little paint company, he worked there as an accountant executive. Our Father graduated from Rizal Technological Institution but later it was named as Rizal Technological University where he took up BS Major in Accounting course which I also attend during my college but unfortunately I did not took the chance to graduate. My father was one of the great person in the world for me who I honor and respect, not because he’s our Father, but because of his dedication as a loving Dad, though I knew there are times our Father make bad decision but if you get to know to him more deep inside, you would said to yourself how beautiful is his heart. When our parents separated ways. Our Father during that time was also retrenched in his past employer and this was so difficult to us. Because most of our necessities in our life, it comes to our Dad job. But as a Father, he did his very best part as a parent, stood up and provide all the things that we need during those difficult times. Often when me and my dad used to have some bonding moments, he would usually tell story about his past how rough times taught him. He learned how important to persevere and as well to study hard just to achieve his dream in graduating in his major course in college without the help of their parents. From the five siblings, he was the only one who graduated in college. Reminiscing the life that we experienced could mold us as a child of our heavenly father.
Chapter 2 Events
I studied in high school from first year to fourth year at Rizal High school in Barangay Rosario Pasig City. When I was in my first year, I remember the school building, dilapidated and was still constructing during that time and there were no tables, chairs, ceilings, and windows. In one room there were two section of students and the table during that year was nothing, we only seated with crossed legs or Indian seat. With the large number of student population and then two separate section combined in one room, there is a curtain in the middle which separated the two section. The curtain help keep the classes silence and proper harmony. But as the lesson begun, it was somewhat incomprehensible adapting it, when two section collide and there was shouting or speaking at the same time. Everyday, these is the scenario that we faced. I know even up to this modern time, there is still other students experienced similar to the past schooling I experienced. Teachers would usually narrate their own story and sharing the good and bad in education system. Reminding every student to have patience, because our main building was still constructing. I remember back then, because we were in the same room, some of my former classmates couldn't resist but have funny moments, especially for male, who couldn't resist pretty and sexy female students, with curve body and descent. Some would scream and would have different tag lines of comedy. I remember during the recitation in the class, our teachers called one of our classmates to recite and answer. Because the barrier is just a curtain, there were instances, it was inevitable to heard it and to answer by the student in the other section. Students couldn't help but to laugh and different noises will come up again. Our teacher can't help as well but to laugh. All the teachers have a meeting one day to discussed how can it be avoided if the same class or section is in one room, especially if the both teacher was teaching the same subject. High school life was truly memorable years for most of us. The emotions, the curiosity, the inspiration, admiration and the various activities that we experienced that will be with us as we grow older. These memorable event, also gaves us unexpected trials, our mother almost lost her good mental condition. This was the time too when our father was retrenched in work. My parents would now had a regular quarrel to one another. Until our mother left (this part was the worst because I would try to open up what our family experienced) us without any formal proper communication with. Due of the circumstances, we were forced to live in my Aunt's house in Pasig. At first when we were starting to live with our Aunt’s house, it was uncomfortable, because we were nourished at a lifestyle which we can do anything we wanted or do things on our own. I remember the things, the equipments, which we had and was bought by our parents. Some are broken; others are still in good shape but never used for long time. Some where barrowed but later did not returned anymore. During those difficult times, feelings mixed with anxiety and fear had overpass. My parents, and mostly our dad when our beloved Mom left us. He had no support for our livelihood and a helping hand who can help him to build our family future. But fortunately, as time goes, we used to lived in a normal life and take advance in our life which we had before. My Aunt was the eldest of their siblings. Our Father used to be the caretaker of our Aunt's children, they're our cousin.
Chapter 3 The joy and sad moment in life
Houses that ones stood there were as old as they are now. These are exactly the case even up to this generation with families which just starting to build their own. Well known wealthy clan of family, they likewise started in humble beginnings but with perseverance, discipline or whatever optimization aspects we have, as long as it is our armor to withstand any challenges, it is enough to succeed. The world is dominant and the meaning of our lives was so profound. I am one of those who aspire to make my goals to come true. Humble narrative story like this, imagining of what i want in life. Even in simple story through aspiration and experiences that we can't longer go back. Justice, dignity and righteousness that was stolen away as times goes by. Your bibliography can provide clarity of who you are and what you want to express. Writing a simple story will help others to know you even better. As I continued to write this, the election was over (May 13, 2013) and President Benigno Aquino has won and elected as President of the Philippines. Likewise as I continued and rewrite, during the May 2016 Presidential election, Rodrigo Duterte won. I still believed leaders are born with a golden heart and philanthropist in their own ways, We weren't the country alone that live in earth and a lot of people and country’s development was adapted to other developed countries and with their good leaders. As long as you have a good intentions, people will always saw your generousity and sincerity to help. Most often, particularly in the modern era that we live, social norms with corrupt behavior and exercises is the negative critism that we will live by. Government offices and SME corporation, and the people connected in here, they can always be affected by neither positive or negative happenings from our society and their institutionalized method. It will depend on how we will try to adapt or how we would understand what's always just, specifically when it is all about injustices and corrupt practices which are so normal and engrained in every society and civilian. My story, and why I wrote it was to enlighten us the danger of this as we headed in the new age of technology. The decades, centuries, thousands of years of combating corruption and wanting to reduce every exercises, literacy and deep analysis, how it perpetuate and influenced people. Culture of corruption was already there since the time of Jesus and with the desciples, but our human incapability of following the important bible verses was seen in many of us. Our weakness to live in a holistic way was more scene as we are heading in the digital modern time. The past and the violation that we always encounter was not new to us. But the problem is that we do not always put extra time, and attention on how these petty acts of corrupt practices becomes so profound, to everyone of us, by every family, by institution. Inspiring more youths and leaders today to advocate anti-corrrupt acts usually deviate to other fascinating and tempting objects and objective. And this is one of the ways why corrupt behaviors enters. There is petty corruption contrary to what are written to related laws and most of us is accountable whether from class A, middle class, class C, class D and class E Filipino families. In general, majority of the population of the world are living in this exercise, if only we could encourage, and educate the large number of our population, regarding legal matters and what constitutional law state to every country, hopefully we could provide ways and educate ourselves, the dangers of corrupt practices through the minds, emotions and spiritual beliefs of every citizen.
Chapter 4 My observation
The first thing I would always observed in their practices is that they will facilitate exercises through the emotion of a person and his ability to think which was oftentimes conduct tactical confusion and irritation. Rule of laws in the constitution and even the Bible seems to be deviate, utilized by other group of civilians by this kind of practices. Today in modern technology particularly in small communities and municipalities, there is always different corrupt practices that are being facilitated and processed. Like those families who had the same form of living and those who led different organization have such the same methodology. Majority of civilians take this as a way of their livelihood and large number of citizen are unaware of what specific laws they violate. In the long run and throughout human history, it only became the social norms, instead of treating it as an anomaly or by analyzing how it can gradually enters human perception. It only becomes part of the so called social norms. The reasons is our thoughts and emotions are not well educated. In many cases like the Filipino citizen who lived by and grew up in different provinces, it was being passed and inherited in the next generation of family. People's perception and his ability to be hostile was likewise diverted because of misleading accountability to every articles written in the constitution when it comes to legal rights. Media companies who has the highest form of public relation usually exercise this propagating norms. There are those segrated individual family who in this method also collaborated with and had molded in this norms. Civilians who worked in public institutions, public schools and government employees or law makers. Even private companies and institutions, have these kind of acknowledgement which is contradicted to related laws like the Civil Code of the Philippines. The saddest part of human history. There is different modules and agencies that advocate anti-corrupt practices. Exposing of those persons, and leaders who facilitate this norms with mixed of corruption, need to be accountable and be liable not only to written rule of laws but to our nation and countrymen. In general, indigent people are the ones affected of this kind of anomalies. In the next chapter, I will share some of the hidden ways in which other individuals conspired or collaborated in this deceptive exercise. I included programs which I watched before that may help citizens to understand. This was about reforming our government institution. Here are the five keys came from another professor in UP, and here is what he said: we need a vision, leadership and political will, act of citizens engagement about defining different forms of corrupt practices, reforming the mindset, paradigms, and behavior, reform institutions processes and procedures. It also involves shaping our families with their children such as building a culture of integrity and ethical behaviour at home, school and workplace. Defining corruption in different field or areas such as family, community, barangays, town and cities, and employees who worked in different department, programs, association like social media, public, and private institution. TV programs for example with different tele novela, noontime show, news program, etc. Nowadays when you take time and observed TV programs, especially American movies or novela's that was translated by a dubber's, there are hinnderous psychological manipulation acts conducted to their televiewers which many of us barely noticed. But it shrinks slowly our good character, our perception to what is written to our related laws. Our capability to determine and be aware on what is stating in the rule of laws was always compromise. We do not pay attention to what deceptive act is being conducted. For example, the propagating intrusion to private lives, even there is Republic Acts, like the RA 386, Chapter 2, Human Relation. Today inhuman practices was now alleviated. You would be surprise because as of now while I'm continue writing my story, their inhuman activities seem to be lessened. I would like to write and share with you this trend, the idea of those petty acts of corruption, so that some will be aware on how they operate their infringing activities. I included this, because their movement, tactics seems to be well planned and not by an accident only. If you will have time, try to read on what I want to emphasize. As I said, take time to read some of our textbook like the Philippines Constitution (Article III Bill of Rights, Section 3- Right of Privacy) or our Civil Code of the Philippines, Republic Act 386, Section 1 (Effects and Application of Laws) and Section 2 (Human Relation).
Meaning of right of privacy (Bill of Rights, Section 3)
The right of privacy is concisely defined as the right to be left alone. It has also been defined as the right of a person to be free from undesired publicity, or disclosure of his communication and correspondence and as the right to live without unwarranted interference by the public in matters with which the public is not necessarily concerned.
The article right of privacy will give truth in the corrupt norms that we are now experiencing. Civilians who facilitate contradicting method in this RA needs to be educated and those civilians who operate malicious exercises contratdicted to this ACTS needs to be liable. But what usually happens is that other group of civilians will tried to deviate people understanding and perception. This is the emotional and psychological manipulation that most of us are not educated; how corrupt behaviour enters slowly someone perception.
Chapter 5 Going deeper
