Outdoor Fun is halfway between a book and a guide that aims to help families get outdoors, enjoy recreational activities, fresh air and physical exercise and rejuvenation.
It’s full of amazing hints and tips about planning, safety and recipes.

Its key message is: “you don’t need to spend lots of money on outdoor adventure and fun. Quality time with each other, a positive attitude, some useful resources help make the outing great. Eat healthy fuel while you are outside enjoying nature and your family!”

Try to get outdoors as your family will benefit in many ways such as emotionally, physically, intellectually and socially.
Gain confidence, absorb the sunshine’s Vitamin D and have fun!

Outdoor Fun

I wish to dedicate this book to families that try to get outdoors as much as possible

Introduction

Everyone needs a good amount of fresh air and unscheduled recreation time. Such recreation is rejuvenating and provides opportunity for exercise and development of physical skills, curiosity, creativity and knowledge. Free fun playing also provides quality time to spend with others. Such quality time in nature is an essential part of having a healthy life. Fun play provides an important part of a child’s development.

When growing up, my energetic parents made it a priority to encourage us to have outdoor play. Going on family trips, outings and adventures was added to backyard fun. Going on family adventures is a definite alternative to spending time on technology. Although screen time may alleviate boredom for a while, getting out of the house prevents of any kind of sadness and restlessness. Enjoy and appreciate a different environment and watch how you can use nature and your five senses to calm and refresh yourself.

Make the outing fun!

The adventure doesn’t have to cost a lot of money or be full of too much activity. In fact, a lot of the outdoor adventures are free. Sometimes you can do more for nothing. You may wish to really slow down the pace and feel unhurried.

Breathe the air in slowly, while happily experiencing the present moment.

Sometimes you could be spontaneous, let go of scheduled time and get outdoors for the day where adventure awaits.

Keep essential items in the car (first aid kit for example) for the times you choose to be natural.

Studies say that hardly more than half of the population take part in outdoor activities. Studies also say that time outside is beneficial: nature helps to reduce anxiety, promotes creativity and adds to heart health.

Research also shows that experiencing nature boosts academic learning.

As a qualified teacher and tutor, I recognise that having outdoor recreation time allows for more quality learning time. I encourage my students to gain a good balance by including recreation time outside of work time.
