We would especially like to thank them for their patience with us as we worked through the process of getting a book completed. Our special thanks go out to our acquisitions editor, Kenyon Brown, for bringing us into the project and to our production editor Christine O'Connor and developmental editor Candace Cunningham for keeping us on track and focused on moving forward. We would also like to thank our copy editor, Sharon Wilkey, and our proofreader, Rebecca Rider, for all of the work they have done on this book.
We would also like to thank our coworker and friend Eric Biller for joining the project as our technical editor. His suggestions have helped to keep the text as accurate as possible and have kept us from making a number of obvious and some not so obvious mistakes.
I, Rob Schmidt, would also like to personally thank my coauthor, Dane Charlton, for agreeing to write this book with me and for being one of the first people who got me interested in VMware and their products. Welcome to the VCA-DCV: VMware Certified Associate-Data Center Virtualization on vSphere Study Guide for exam VCAD510. The purpose of this book is to help you prepare for the VCA-DCV exam by becoming familiar with the challenges that businesses face and the tools and technologies that are provided by VMware to help meet those challenges. Even though the book is primarily designed to help with the VCA-DCV, we hope it will also help administrators better understand some of the tools they could be using to make their lives easier as well as gain better insight into the tools that they are using.
We (the authors, Dane Charlton and Robert Schmidt) have extensive backgrounds in information technology and specialize in managing and maintaining large virtual environments. Together we have over 45 years of technology experience that we hope to share in this book.
