This is about the future mage Jonathan Tanner Thomas who is caught up in the merging of the two realms – magic and science. The two, a long time ago, had been separated for being the same thing in different forms. They were never meant to be together and the rejoining of them nearly destroys the earth realm as well as all the others. The merge is made to occur so the demon king can take control of the realms. Jon Tom, who never wants to be a hero, is the only one who can stop it.

This is book three of the Merge.

The truth about disclaimers is the idea the characters are fictitious and have no resemblance to persons living or dead. The reality is that all good books are based, in some way or shade, from the author’s life. If the right person were to read the book they would know which character they were.
I dedicate this book to those who really believe in equality. When the pendulum stops swinging, everything is equal.
Samantha looked first at the small cabin before turning her attention to the lake. The snow was still falling hard but both she, and her companion Jon Tom, ignored it. A smile slowly formed on her lips as she, once again, turned to Jon Tom. "Time to drop the shield..."
He was about to say something smart but quickly changed his mind. "Can't."
"Sure you can. The area is secure or didn't you know?" Samantha moved to the water line.
Jon Tom followed her. As he looked out over the water he could hear the flakes sizzle softly as they hit the warmer water. "No I didn't know but what difference would it mean anyway?"
"It means you can tell the truth." Samantha turned to place her hand on his chest. "As much as you like this you would prefer to be some place else right now."
Jon Tom debated her words. Then he carefully let his mind probe all of him. In a few minutes he realized he could find nothing even at the outer edges of his senses. "Fine. What do you want to know?"
"The truth is all."
"That's it? Fine. As much as I liked having sex with Melinda, after all these years, I couldn't think about who I should have been with. Holding tight. Making love to. It definitely wasn’t Melinda.”
Samantha took a couple of steps into the water. Pulling him with her. "Can't you just say you are married? That you miss her badly? Or the reason you are here is to protect your family?"
Jon Tom grabbed hold of her to spin her around to face him. By this time they were almost up to their knees in the water. "How is it you know all this?"
"Melinda knew it. She told me so that I would know how to protect you. So what was the real reason you left them?"
"The real reason? The real reason I left is she told me to lead them away and then do what I do best. Get very, very angry. Tammy said once I do then take it out on them as badly as possible. It is just so hard to argue with her once she has made up her mind. So I left and since then I have been trying to get them to show up in person." Jon Tom could feel a tear welling at the corner of both eyes. He closed his eyes before turning his face to the sky. The cold bite, of the snow flakes, felt good against his hot face. But as good as it felt it didn't take away from the thoughts flashing through his mind. The last discussion they had before he left them. How she pulled her 'this is the only way it will work' attitude. It had been getting harder and harder to keep his thoughts at bay while around them but he had. Sooner, or later, something would slip through the defense and it would be all over. So he left to lure the hunters out and destroy them once and for all. "I thought that battle would be the end but now I realize this is just the beginning. So to keep them safe I still can not go back." Samantha could feel, as well see, the pain in him. Yet there was so much more than this. "So how is it you can accept who I am?"
