Ich freue mich, dass du dich dafür entschieden hast, Detective Stumble und seinen schlauen Papagei Polly bei ihren Ermittlungen zu unterstützen.
Dieses Buch hilft dir auf unterhaltsame Art die englische Sprache und Grundgrammatik der 5. Schulstufe zu lernen und zu festigen. Als Unterstützung gibt es die Geschichten auch als Audiodatei und in deutscher Übersetzung. Zusätzlich zu den Grammatikübungen bietet das Buch auch Verständnisfragen, die du am Ende einer jeden Geschichte beantworten kannst.
Zusammen mit dem tollpatschigen Detective Stumble und seiner cleveren Assistentin Polly kannst du in zwölf abwechslungsreichen Abenteuern dein Wissen unter Beweis stellen. Deine Eltern und deine Lehrer werden stolz auf dich sein.
Je nachdem, wie sehr du bereits mit der englischen Sprache vertraut bist, empfehlen wir dir bei der Lösung der Grammatikaufgaben drei Herangehensweisen.
1. Leicht: Hör dir die Geschichte an, während du den Text im Buch mitliest. So wirst du gleich zu Beginn mit der richtigen Aussprache vertraut. Danach hörst du dir die Geschichte erneut an und fügst im Lückentext die fehlenden Wörter ein. Solltest du noch immer Probleme beim Verstehen des Textes haben, kannst du die Geschichten auf Deutsch nachlesen.
2. Fortgeschritten: Hör dir die Geschichte an, ohne dabei mitzulesen. Du wirst merken, dass sich dein Hörverständnis innerhalb kurzer Zeit verbessern wird. Danach füllst du die Lückentexte aus und vergleichst dein Ergebnis mit den Lösungen.
3. Schwer: Fülle den Lückentext zuerst aus, ohne die Geschichte davor gehört zu haben. Zur Kontrolle kannst du dir die Audiodatei nun anhören und mit deinen Ergebnissen vergleichen.
Für die Beantwortung der offenen Fragen darfst du natürlich jederzeit im Text nachlesen. Es geht nicht darum, sich alles während des Lesens zu merken, sondern darum, den Inhalt der Geschichte zu verstehen und richtig zu deuten.

Stan Stumble is a detective. He is not very clever, but he loves his job. Detective Stumble usually wears a long brown coat and a hat.
One day Stumble leaves his home and goes to the office. On the street he sees that he has no shoes on.
“I can’t believe I forgot my shoes. I am sure they are at home,” says Stumble and goes back home to get his shoes.
Later, on his way to the office, he suddenly steps on his shoelaces and bumps into a lamppost. When he gets back up, Stumble hears a squawk coming from above. He looks up and sees a colorful parrot on a lamppost.
“Help! I am stuck!” cries the parrot.
Stumble wants to help. He climbs up the lamppost and tries to free the parrot. The parrot has a piece of chewing gum on its feet and can’t move. He frees the parrot and together they climb down.
The parrot says,” Thank you for your help. My name is Polly.“
“My name is Stan Stumble and I am a detective.”
“Wow, that’s cool! My owner Mrs. Grey is in a home for old people now and there are no parrots allowed. I am very smart and I can help you solve cases. Can I be your assistant?” Polly asks.
Stumble hasn’t solved a case for many weeks and so he is very happy about the help of Polly.
From that day on, Stumble and Polly are the most famous detective duo in the city.
STUMBLE MEETS POLLY

STUMBLE TRIFFT POLLY
Stan Stumble ist ein Detektiv. Er ist nicht sehr klug, aber er liebt seine Arbeit. Detective Stumble trägt normalerweise einen langen braunen Mantel und einen Hut.
Eines Tages verlässt Stumble sein Haus und geht ins Büro. Auf der Straße sieht er, dass er keine Schuhe anhat.
„Ich kann nicht glauben, dass ich meine Schuhe vergessen habe. Ich bin sicher, sie sind zu Hause”, sagt Stumble und geht nach Hause, um seine Schuhe zu holen.
Später, auf dem Weg ins Büro, tritt er plötzlich auf seine Schnürsenkel und stößt gegen einen Laternenpfahl.
Als er wieder aufsteht, hört Stumble ein Kreischen, das von oben kommt. Er schaut nach oben und sieht einen bunten Papagei auf einem Laternenpfahl.
„Hilfe! Ich stecke fest!”, schreit der Papagei.
Stumble will helfen. Er klettert auf den Laternenpfahl und versucht, den Papagei zu befreien. Der Papagei hat ein Stück Kaugummi an den Füßen und kann sich nicht bewegen.
Stumble befreit den Papagei und gemeinsam klettern sie hinunter.
Der Papagei sagt: „Danke für deine Hilfe. Mein Name ist Polly.”
„Mein Name ist Stan Stumble und ich bin Detektiv.”
„Wow, das ist cool! Meine Besitzerin, Frau Grey, ist jetzt in einem Altersheim und da sind keine Papageien erlaubt. Ich bin sehr klug und kann dir helfen, Fälle zu lösen. Kann ich deine Assistentin sein?”, fragt Polly.
Stumble hat seit vielen Wochen keinen Fall mehr gelöst und ist deshalb sehr froh über die Hilfe von Polly.
Von diesem Tag an sind Stumble und Polly das berühmteste Detektivduo der Stadt.
2) THE MYSTERY AT THE FOOTBALL CLUB

It says that the local football team has a problem. Everytime the kids want to train, their balls have holes in them and they can’t play.
“This sounds like an interesting case,” Polly says and flies to the desk to get Stumble’s mobile phone.
“Let’s call them and see if we can help them,” says Stumble and dials the number of the football club.
“Hello, I am Detective Stumble. I have heard that you need help with your footballs,” he says.
“That’s very nice. We can really need some help here,” the coach answers. One hour later, Stumble and Polly arrive at the football ground.
The coach comes to them and shows them some of the broken balls. They all have holes in them. Many holes.
“I don’t understand that. Every day when we finish our training, we leave the balls on the field and the next day they have holes in them. How is that possible?” the coach wonders.
Stumble and Polly walk around the football ground. They check the fence for holes, but they can’t see anything. Suddenly a football flies through the air and lands exactly on Stumbles head.
“Ouch!” he screams and looks at a boy and a girl who run across the field.
“I am so sorry, are you alright?” the boy asks.
