Beschreibung

This is a series of books on love, relationships, and the idea that you don’t always have to chase after what you want in life. There are times when it finds you.

There are three sets of people in life. First are the white caps. People who are always on the move. Always doing something. Next are the backwaters. People who have no intention of going anywhere or doing anything.

The third are the drifters. These are people who know what they want, where they are going, and what they need to do to get there. But it is all done in its own time. Like a piece of wood lazily floating down a stream.

May you all drift your way to success.

Chapter 4

The room was not quite unseeable dark but the little light floating in from a distant window was not enough for Steven to get a handle on his surroundings. The only two things he knew for certain was the chair he was tied to had to be made of oak for how heavy, and unbreakable, it was. The other was Nancy was close enough he could see she was okay. Unconscious, but okay. He could not see any marks on her but she was not awake yet. Whatever they had used was very powerful. One moment he was having a nice conversation with Nancy, the next he was waking up to the current situation.

There was one other minor detail about the place. It had the smell of a place which had been closed up for a long time. If he knew how long he had been out there was a slim chance he could figure out where they were. But the wrist watch was gone. So too would be his cell. Steven thought for a moment. Carefully he started to twist his left wrist. His initial testing of the rope told him it was very abrasive in nature. This would be perfect for what he had in mind. The initial bite stopped him for a moment. Only a moment. This soon passed so he continued to rotate his wrist. A soft moan stopped him again as he turned his attention to Nancy. Slowly her head came up before a short scream erupted from her mouth.

“Hey, I’m right here. You’re okay.” Steven never thought he would say words like that and really mean them.

Nancy followed the direction, of his voice, to see he was not far away from her. “What is going on? And how can we be okay if we are tied up?”

“Because we are still alive. For whatever reason they have for this I don’t care. We could be dead right now.” Steven thought for a moment. “They made a huge mistake keeping us alive.”

“You can’t know that.” She said.

This time Steven did not hold back a laugh. “But I can. I may be a priest to most people but there is so much more to me than they know. So much I am going to share with you as we get to know each other better. I plan on living a long time and I want you there with me.”

For a moment Nancy was irritated with the laugh but soon knew it was something good. She had been thinking of how nice it would have been to live with this man for a long time. But the current situation made her feel she was being cheated. She finally found what she had been searching for only to lose it all too soon. Yet he sounded as if he was sure of what he was saying. “So what are we going to do?”

“That is easy. First I am going to get free…” Steven had a suddenly bad thought. “And the way it is going to be done you have to keep quiet about. No matter what you see, do you understand?”

“Yes.” Nancy said.

“After I get free then I free you and then we see if we can get out of here or wait for a rescue team.”

“A rescue team?” Nancy’s voice held a note of disbelief. “How will they know where we are?”

Steven was about to say something when a noise made him hold his finger up to his lip to tell Nancy to be quiet. Listening carefully he soon could tell it was a door opening at least the length of two rooms away by the way it was echoing. Soon the lights came on to momentarily blind him. He had not been fast enough closing his eyes. He was sure there was no power ergo any lights. He had been wrong. Slowly he opened his eyes. The first thing he saw was they were in a large room which was completely bare. Whatever had been here had been removed a very long time ago. Not even any equipment, if there had been any, remained to show what the room was used for. It was just big. The next thing he saw was six men walking toward them. By the way they deferred to the big one in the center told Steven this was the leader. Then he took a second look. Something about the walk seemed familiar. Especially the limp in the left leg. When they stopped one looked at the leader before advancing to Steven. Looked him over while touching his forehead. This man did the same thing to Nancy. Once he finished with her he went to get back in line.

“I don’t see any problems with them. The drug seems to be going away without any side effects. So they should be good.”

The leader, gimpy, moved to stand in front of Steven. Then he locked onto the idea he had called him gimpy. He would never say that about anyone who had a limp. Unless…unless…then it hit him. “Reggie…I thought you had learned something when I gave you the limp.”

Reggie Reynolds stared down at Steven. “And I thought you would act more cowardly with being tied up like you are. We were both wrong.”

Steven laughed for several seconds. “And why would I act cowardly to a bully I beat on more than one occasion to prove you weren’t all that. Really? And as far as being tied up…well…let’s just say that is so temporary.”

“You are right. It is temporary. As soon as we deal with Bill, and the others, then we will make sure no one will ever find you alive, or even dead, again.” Reggie moved over to Nancy. “She may not go as quickly as you. I am sure we will get a lot of fun with her for several days after you are gone.”

“I think if you figure to do anything with her you are delusional. For the moment you have the high road but it will not last for long.” Steven could feel a trickle down his left hand and hoped no one would see it.

“Do you think someone is going to come and rescue you? They have no idea where you are so there is no way it is going to happen. But more on that later. Right now I have a phone call to make.” Reggie pulled a cell out of his coat pocket. Instantly Steven recognized it as his. “I know Bill will answer his cell quicker if he saw it was you.”

Reggie hit the speed dial and soon the cell was ringing. Then Bill answered. “Hey Steven where the hell are you?”
