Wholly For God

THERE ARE THREE things in the Word of God of which He tells us to be careful lest we come short.

First. See that we do not come short of the glory of God. That is the charge God brings against the whole world. “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:53). From the time man turned from God to himself, self became the center and God was left out, and this sin is yet against the whole world.

Romans 1:19-21 — “Because that which may be known of God is manifest to them: for God hath showed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse. Because when they knew God they glorified them not as God, neither were thankful.”

This is sin, — because they should have known through the creation something of the eternal Godhead and majesty and glory of God as Creator, — should have glorified Him and been thankful, and were neither.

I am not sure but that it can be charged against the Christian. We are here for this one object, to glorify God. He created us for that purpose, and our happiness and holiness is wrapped up in this.

John 17:1 — “Father, glorify Thy Son, that thy Son may also glorify thee,” was the prayer of Jesus. Do we pray for blessings for that reason? He asked that God would bless Him for the sole purpose that He might glorify the Father.
