Inspirational Quotes

Believe not in anything simply because you have heard it,Believe not in anything simply because it was spoken and rumoured by many,Believe not in anything simply because it was found written in your religious texts,Believe not in anything merely on the authority of teachers and elders,Believe not in traditions because they have been handed down for generations,But after observation and analysis, if anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, accept it and live up to it.

Gautama Buddha

———

Great Spirit, whose voice is on the wind, hear me.

Let me grow in strength and knowledge.

Make me ever behold the red and purple sunset.

May my hands respect the things you have given me.

Teach me the secrets hidden under every leaf and stone, as you have taught people for ages past.

Let me use my strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy – myself.

Let me always come before you with clean hands and an open heart, that as my Earthly span fades like the sunset, my Spirit shall return to you without shame.

(Based on a traditional Sioux prayer)

———

“I do not seek to walk in the footsteps of the Wise People of old; I seek what they sought”.

Matsuo Basho

———

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go”.

Joshua 1:9

———

“Whatever misfortune befalls you [people], it is because of what your own hands have done-God forgives much-”

Quran 42:30

———

Myself when young did eagerly frequent

Doctor and Saint, and heard great Argument

About it and about; but oft-times

Came out, by the same Door as in I went.

Omar Khayyam

Six amusing / interesting facts about sound systems:

1. The Origin of the “Hi-Fi” Label: The term “Hi-Fi,” short for high fidelity, was coined in the 1950s to describe audio systems that provided exceptionally clear sound. Before then, the best audio systems were often referred to as “lo-fi” or low fidelity, which was a less flattering description of the technology.

2. The First Loudspeakers Were Made from Cone Paper: The earliest loudspeakers, developed in the 1920s, used paper cones to produce sound. These paper cones were surprisingly effective and are still used in some high-end speakers today, though modern materials have improved their performance.

3. The Most Expensive Speakers in the World: The “Kharma Exquisite” speakers hold the record for the most expensive speakers ever sold. Priced at over $1 million a pair, these speakers are crafted with luxurious materials like gold and diamond dust, and their performance is tailored to the finest detail.

4. Famous Audio Tuning: Abbey Road Studios: The iconic Abbey Road Studios in London, known for its role in recording legendary albums like The Beatles’ “Abbey Road,” has its own unique acoustic signature. The studio’s sound quality is partly due to the carefully designed room acoustics and the legendary EMI TG12345 mixing console.

5. Frequencies Humans Can’t Hear: The range of frequencies that humans can hear is from about 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. However, audio systems are capable of producing sounds outside this range. For instance, subwoofers can produce frequencies as low as 10 Hz, which are felt more than heard, while some tweeters go beyond 20,000 Hz.

6. The Unlikely Invention of the First Record Player: Thomas Edison, who is better known for inventing the light bulb, also invented the phonograph in 1877. His first record player used a tinfoil cylinder to record sound, a far cry from today’s sleek, digital systems, but it laid the groundwork for modern audio technology.

These facts highlight the fascinating history and innovation in the world of sound systems, adding a bit of intrigue to the subject.

1. The Evolution of Wireless Audio

From Bluetooth to True Wireless

Wireless audio has revolutionised the way we experience sound, liberating us from the constraints of cables and allowing for unprecedented convenience and mobility. What began as a novel concept has now become the norm, with wireless technology continually evolving to meet the demands of increasingly sophisticated users. The journey from basic Bluetooth connections to today’s true wireless solutions is a testament to the rapid advancements in technology and the ever-growing importance of seamless audio experiences.

The Beginnings: Bluetooth’s Emergence

The story of wireless audio begins with the advent of Bluetooth technology. Developed in the late 1990s and named after the 10th-century Danish king Harald “Bluetooth” Gormsson, Bluetooth was designed to enable short-range communication between devices. Initially, Bluetooth was seen as a solution for transferring data wirelessly, but it soon found its way into the audio world.

Early Bluetooth audio devices were primarily mono headsets designed for hands-free phone calls. The sound quality was often subpar, characterised by limited bandwidth and noticeable latency. However, as Bluetooth technology improved, so did its application in the audio realm. The introduction of Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) allowed for stereo audio transmission, paving the way for the first wave of wireless headphones and speakers.

Despite these advancements, early Bluetooth audio faced significant challenges. The limited bandwidth meant that audio quality was often compromised, especially when compared to wired connections. Latency issues also plagued early devices, making them less suitable for applications where timing was critical, such as watching videos or gaming.

The Leap Forward: Bluetooth 4.0 and Beyond

The real breakthrough in wireless audio came with the introduction of Bluetooth 4.0, also known as Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), in 2010. This version of Bluetooth offered several key improvements, including lower power consumption, faster pairing times, and enhanced data transfer rates. These advancements made it possible to stream higher-quality audio while preserving battery life, a critical factor for portable devices like headphones and speakers.

Bluetooth 4.0 also introduced the aptX codec, which significantly improved audio quality by reducing the amount of data that needed to be transmitted without a noticeable loss in sound fidelity. This was a game-changer for wireless audio, as it brought the sound quality of Bluetooth devices much closer to that of wired connections.

As Bluetooth continued to evolve, subsequent versions like Bluetooth 5.0 and 5.1 further enhanced the wireless audio experience. These versions offered even greater range, faster data transfer rates, and improved stability, allowing for more reliable connections and better audio performance.

The Rise of True Wireless: A New Era

The next significant milestone in the evolution of wireless audio was the introduction of true wireless technology. Unlike traditional wireless headphones, which still relied on a cable or band connecting the two earpieces, true wireless earbuds are completely cable-free. This innovation was first popularised by the launch of Apple’s AirPods in 2016, which quickly became a cultural phenomenon and set the standard for the industry.
