The cheeky mouse.

Fatty cat was out taking his usual afternoon stroll around the streets and alleys where he lived. Cheeky Mouse had been calling him lots of rude names just lately and then running away. Cheeky Mouse would call Fatty a naughty name and then run away singing a silly song and was really beginning to annoy Fatty Cat.

“Nah, nah, Fatty Cat, you are too fat, if you want to catch me, you must run faster than that” he would sing in a very cheeky, very squeaky voice.

Fatty always tried to catch Cheeky Mouse but he was much too quick.

This had happened every afternoon for a whole week and Fatty Cat didn't know what to do to catch Cheeky Mouse and tell him off.

Fatty was out again the next morning hoping for a nice quiet morning stroll, he turned around the corner near to the butchers shop back door and he saw another cat, just like him at the other end of the alley. He stopped to watch where the other cat was going. The other cat didn't move so Fatty started walking towards it. The other cat started to walk towards Fatty Cat so he stopped wondering what was going on. This cat was most strange. Fatty cat sat watching the other cat, he lifted his paw to straighten his whiskers, and the other cat did the same. Fatty Cat decided it was time to have a word with the other cat, copying Fatty’s movements all the time, he started to walk towards the other cat, and the other cat set off to walk towards Fatty Cat!, he thought they would bump into each other. To Fatty’s surprise he walked straight up to the other cat, nose to nose, but of course Fatty Cat laughed, He was looking into a mirror at himself! The people in the charity shop next door to the butchers had put some broken things out in the alley for throwing away. Amongst the things was an old mirror. It was laid against the wall facing down the alley. This old mirror gave Fatty Cat a very clever idea.

Later that day Fatty went out for his usual afternoon stroll only today he went out a little bit earlier than usual, he turned around the corner near to the butchers shop back door and sure enough saw himself in the mirror. 'Good' He thought 'It's still there.'

Cheeky Mouse was always waiting somewhere in the alleyway to be cheeky to Fatty Cat but he hid around the corner to wait for Cheeky Mouse to show himself.

'Here he comes', thought Fatty keeping very still and quiet. Cheeky Mouse had walked up the alley from the other end and had hidden near the rubbish bins to surprise Fatty Cat. Soon as Fatty saw Cheeky Mouse he left his hiding place and started to stroll down the alley.

Sure enough out jumped Cheeky Mouse called Fatty Cat a cheeky name and turned to scamper off laughing. Fatty started to chase Cheeky Mouse who was singing in his squeaky little voice as he scampered off.

“Nah, nah, Fatty Cat, you are too fat, if you want to catch me, you must run faster than that”

Cheeky Mouse stopped in horror at what he saw! Another cat just like Fatty Cat was running towards him from the other end of the alley! He turned to run away, but Fatty Cat was running towards him from the other end! Cheeky Mouse shrieked in fright, the two Cats were surely going to catch him as he was trapped in the middle of them both, he dashed around the back of the rubbish bins to escape. He squealed as his whiskers hit the bins and his tail hit the wall as he desperately squeezed through the narrow gap. He ran and ran to escape from the two cats.

Fatty Cat laughed and laughed his trick had worked a treat; silly old Cheeky Mouse really did think there were two Fatty Cats.

Cheeky Mouse wasn't cheeky to Fat Cat again. That's for sure. Meeow, Meeow, Meeow.

Cousins visit.
