About The Webster's 1833 Revision

This is an excerpt from Wikipedia:

Noah Webster's 1833 limited revision of the King James Version focused mainly on replacing archaic words and making simple grammatical changes. For example: "why" instead of "wherefore", "its" instead of "his" when referring to nonliving things, "male child" instead of "manchild", etc. He also introduced euphemisms to remove words he found offensive: "whore" becomes "lewd woman". Overall, very few changes were made, and the result is a book which is almost indistinguishable from the King James Version. It has sometimes been called the "Common Version" (which is not to be confused with the Common Bible of 1973, an ecumencial edition of the Revised Standard Version).

Modern critics are surprised by just how little Webster changed the King James Version. His revision was very light, as he did not want to make the language wholly contemporary, but rather wanted to correct flaws he disagreed with as an educator. Other, less orthodox Americans were bringing out their own versions of the New Testament, but he had no interest in theologically motivated changes. One notable change that was beyond just revising language flaws was a correction changing the word "Easter" in Ac 12:4 to the word "Passover".

It is noteworthy that throughout Webster's revision of the King James Bible, the lexicographer replaced "Holy Ghost" with "Holy Spirit". Webster did so because he knew that in the Scriptures this expression did not mean "an apparition". In the preface of his Bible, Webster wrote: "Some words have fallen into disuse; and the signification of others, in current popular use, is not the same now as it was when they were introduced into the version. The effect of these changes is, that some words are not understood by common readers, who have no access to commentaries, and who will always compose a great proportion of readers; while other words, being now used in a sense different from that which they had when the translation was made, present a wrong signification or false ideas. Whenever words are understood in a sense different from that which they had been introduced, and different from that of the original languages, they do not present to the reader the Word of God."

The problem with the older books was confusion on the part of readers as the language styles had been evolving over the years and a lot of meaning of the text in this Bible was being lost on the average reader. Some passages were misunderstood. Grammar had evolved as well and the above changes made an easier read while purifying the language and making it more delicate.

About The Darby English Bible

An excerpt from Wikipedia:

The Darby Bible (DBY, formal title The Holy Scriptures: A New Translation from the Original Languages by J. N. Darby) refers to the Bible as translated from Hebrew and Greek by John Nelson Darby. Darby published a translation of the New Testament in 1867, with revised editions in 1872 and 1884. After his death, some of his students produced an Old Testament translation based on Darby's French and German translations (see below). The complete Darby Bible, including Darby's 3rd edition New Testament and his students' Old Testament, was first published in 1890.

J. N. Darby's purpose was, as he states in the preface to his English NT, to make a modern translation for the unlearned who have neither access to manuscript texts nor training and knowledge of ancient languages of the Scriptures. He was the principal scholar for a number of translations – and not the sole translator of any one of the various translations that bear his name. He worked with various brethren who had academic and spiritual qualifications. He also acknowledges dependence on the critical work of Samuel Prideaux Tregelles and various other scholars. Darby's translation work was not intended to be read aloud. His work was for study and private use. In his own oral ministry he generally used the English KJV.

When Mr. Darby first issued his New Translation into English he wrote in the preface to the Revelation 'if the reader find my translation exceedingly similar to Mr. William Kelly's, I can only rejoice in it, as mine was made a year or two before his came out, and he has never seen mine up to the time of my writing this...' (Darby went on to write that his New Testament translation had been lying by him for some years then). In his introduction to the 1890, German version, he wrote, "In the issue of this translation, the purpose is not to offer to the man of letters a learned work, but rather to provide the simple and unlearned reader with as exact a translation as possible."

In the Old Testament Darby translates the covenant name of God as "Jehovah" instead of rendering it "LORD" or "GOD" (in all capital letters) as most English translations do. Among other widely used translations only Robert Young's Literal Translation, the American Standard Version (1901), and the Jehovah's Witnesses' New World Translation (1950) have followed this practice. The footnotes of many editions (such as the 1961 Modified Notes Edition) of Darby Bible's New Testament indicate where "Lord" ("Kurios" in Greek) in the scripture text probably refers to Jehovah. The 1961 Modified Notes Edition of the Darby Bible includes the 1871 New Testament Preface, which says in part "All the instances in which the article is wanting before Kurios are not marked by brackets; but I give here all the passages in which Kurios, which the LXX employ for Jehovah, thence transferred to the New Testament, is used as a proper name; that is, has the sense of 'Jehovah.'" It then gives a listing of those places.

Our Bible Introduction

Gods word is surely the most wonderful and astounding text given mankind throughout all time. Only a thourough study of it can unlock its secrets. We believe it is critical, not just in this time and age, to understand Gods nature. At present everything seems to be upside down, where good is bad and bad is good. Our direction and compass is knowing God wrote His word to stand the test of time since He clearly wrote it prophetically, seeing the end from the beginning. How do we know? We know because He has confirmed many of the events that are happening in the world and have happened even within our own small lifespan. God has spoken of and prophecied about world wide events in The Bible and these prophecies are unique. You will not find anything like The Bible on planet Earth with such mindblowing accuracy and precision. But on a smaller level, each man and woman needs to make up their mind and walk out that which God tells them. That is when we have the signs and wonders following, by acting upon and putting our trust in The word of God, The Bible. It is indeed written that Jesus Christ is the author of our faith and what more can we ask for. I have personally seen people healed from incurable sicknesses such as HIV. Through the authority Jesus gave us I have cast out Demons, seen metal disappear from a body and be replaced with normal bones. I have set people free from the smallest sickness to terminal sickness and I can testify of the immense joy that follows a battle fought and won! There are many witnesses of the signs and wonders that will happen to anyone who choose to believe God and dares to walk the talk. Surely, The Body of Christ is active and alive and God is good to His children! But we need to heed His word and seek the knowledge He has for us. Not just through the word, but through closeness with God and active fellowship with our brothers and sisters. The Holy Spirit will always confirm The Truth that Jesus Christ of Nazareth wants to share with us.

But do not just take this for granted. Gods word can surely be dug into, tested, verified and found worthy. But for you to incorporate it into your life and see the reality of it, requires faith. Living faith, not dead faith. A heartbeat at a time, day by day, feeding upon The Word of God and enjoying the fruit of The Spirit. When we ask God, pursuit the truth He has set before us, He will surely answer in time. Do not think it will lead you to nowhere, cause it will not. This is not just some senseless gong ho as unbelievers will have it, sprinkled with nice stories of miracles and what not. Far from it. We have seen this time and time again. The truth is singular and our creator is true and The One and only "I AM". There are no multiple Gods here, that is a lie from the devil. Neither is God a floating self-aware entity made up by every living being. Earth, or Gaia as many calls it is a fiction and a fairytale. How we have stumbled, fallen and seen death all around us, but never did it enlighten us until Jesus Christ of Nazareth came and showed us the truth and nothing but the truth. He is surely the way, the truth and the life. Unless a person walks it out according to Gods knowledge, that person will continue sleepwalking until the very end. Such an end would be sad to say the least. Wake up now and taste the goodness of God and draw close to Him and He will draw close to you! And if you have already woken up, but are walking around feeling sleepy: *fight* in order to not fall asleep again, seek Father with all your heart, mind and soul and be vigilant in doing so! Even so, I must admit I have no clue as to how God has managed to put together The Bible in the way He has. To my own intellect I looked at The Bible as flawed, beyond repair and full of tairytales. But that was before I received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and experienced the power of God through an evangelist who took The Bible literal. The signs and wonders have not stopped since. Not because of me, but because God never changes and He has clearly showed that He wants everyone saved! Hands down, this is the best news I have ever heard and experienced! Love your God with all your heart, with all your might and everthing you are and you will surely conquer whatever comes against you, no matter the size or seeming severity. God seeks your heart, your attention and your affection. Through Him you will overcome the desires and the lusts of this world and live a life of abundance into eternity.

Please forgive me for being so blunt and straight forward. I sincerely wish for you all to be and walk in the blessing God has for you. Some of you are even walking in what feels like a desert, but remember that God will chastise those He loves. Not because He hates us, on the contrary. He is our Father if we let Him, and He will always see to it that as long as we listen to Him we will carry more fruit. And sometimes a time in the desert is needed. Even so, please fear not, because God is surely on your side when you seek Him with all your heart. Surely nothing is impossible with our Father in heaven. If He has spoken it will come to pass! All Glory to God!!

≡ James 1:22-2522   But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.23   For if any is a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like a man beholding his natural face in a glass:24   For he beholdeth himself, and goeth away, and immediately forgetteth what manner of man he was.25   But he who looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth in it, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. ○-○
