EPISODE 25UFO - MYSTERY (2)
Day 2. The Rogosians have always been a mystery to me. They are returning to their roots and living in harmony with nature. Our cultures couldn't be more different, but there are things we have in common. And things we want to exchange. They are very interested in our clothes and our delicious wine. And we love their spices and diverse plants. Claude is accompanying me on my journey because I will soon be taking over his position. He has truly earned his upcoming retirement. Claude is a warm and fair man. He is my role model and I hope I can fill the big shoes he will be leaving behind.’
Astrolabius devoured the pilot's diary. He wrote about another world, about another life. Astro had planned to give the diary to his father, but the stories in it captivated him. He would return the book as soon as he had finished reading it. And since the officials at the Lunar Station were unaware that it existed, it couldn't be reported missing. With this thought, Astro eased his guilty conscience. His astronaut watch mercilessly indicated the passing of time; it was already well past midnight. He would have to wait until tomorrow to continue reading.
Astrolabius licked Shooting Star across the face. Astro had trouble getting out of bed, but his four-legged friend wanted to go running with him. This had become their daily morning ritual. ‘All right, I'm up already.’
Astro crawled on all fours to his chair, where his Lunar Uniform was waiting. When he felt for it, he slipped it on. He was able to keep his eyes half open when putting on his running shoes. The other family members were still asleep in their beds. Astro quietly closed the door as he left and the two of them started running.
During the training, his thoughts were with the pilot. Astro couldn't wait to read on. He was eager to follow the pilot's journey. And maybe Astro would also learn what event had led to the momentous accident. Shooting Star ran happily beside him. When they had completed their three laps, Astrolabius stopped and reached into his pocket... Oh no! He had forgotten the dog biscuit!
Shooting Star waited with his tongue hanging out for his reward. ‘You'll get your dog biscuit inside, I promise!’ His four-legged friend cocked his head and barked. He agreed to this for once.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Winter family was sitting at the kitchen table. Everyone was enjoying an extended and leisurely breakfast. Astrolabius had completely forgotten that today was Sunday. No Lunar School! He would spend the rest of the day in bed reading. This would be great!
But his mother had other plans: ‘It's time for a good cleaning day again! Tidy up, clean out, the whole nine yards!’
She beamed at her family with motivation. Marvin tried to sound enthusiastic and hesitantly squeezed out a ‘Hurray...let's clean out the house!’
Claire, on the other hand, expressed her displeasure: ’Oh no, Mama! I wanted to meet and play with Emma, Alice, and Sibylle today! I've been busy all week and was really looking forward to the weekend! I don't always want to work!’ Lilly remained strong: “Claire, today is Sunday. You overslept Friday afternoon. You played with your friends Friday evening and all day Saturday! If we all help together, we'll be done faster and you can meet up with them again this afternoon.” Claire admitted defeat and, with a theatrical sigh, laid her head on the table. She murmured, ’Okay...’
Astro's mother looked at him expectantly: ‘Can I count on you?’ How he would have liked to avoid it. Astrolabius hated cleaning up. But he knew he had no chance of avoiding cleaning day anyway. So he forced a smile: ‘Yes, Mama!’
They all took their time over breakfast. But the inevitable could not be averted. Lilly placed a large basket on the kitchen table and said, ‘Each of you will sort through your things. Anything that is no longer needed will be donated!’
At the Lunar Station, Kim Sun was responsible for the donations. Toys went directly to the Lunar Kindergarden. Dishes and other kitchen utensils went to the Lunar School. The rest was either given to interested parties or recycled. ‘I want each of you to give away at least two things!’
On Alpha Prime, there was a big family cleaning day every six months. The Winter family had agreed on this so that they could take a more relaxed approach to the subject of tidiness for the rest of the time. This seemed fair to everyone. Besides, they always treated themselves to a particularly delicious meal afterwards.
Lilly provided cleaning supplies and assigned tasks. Marvin was responsible for the technical aspects of the apartment, checked the furniture and repaired it if necessary. He also took care of the parents' bedroom. Claire and Astrolabius were to tidy up the living room together and then their own rooms. Lilly was responsible for the bathroom and the kitchen. She put on her rubber gloves and shouted: ‘On your marks, get set, go!’
Astro had imagined his day off differently. Now he was mopping and cleaning and putting toys and other things back in their places. Claire was, as always, of dubious help. She deliberately moved in slow motion. It was funny to watch, but Astro had to do more of the work together. ‘Claire, hurry up!’ Astrolabius rolled his eyes in annoyance when she suddenly went into a complete freeze. He laughed at her ingenuity, but Astro didn't want to do everything alone. Besides, he had something important planned.
Astrolabius nudged his sister and said with a grin, ‘I'm much faster than you anyway, because I'm bigger and smarter!’ Claire eyed him sceptically. Then Astro saw the sparkle in her eyes. ‘No, I'm much faster than you!’ Claire objected vehemently and jumped up. She whizzed around the living room cleaning like mad. Within an hour, the two of them were done.
Lilly was thrilled: ‘Wonderful! You're great, my two busy bees!’ Claire didn't miss the chance to shout: ‘I did a lot more than Astro!’ Lilly lovingly stroked her cheek: ‘You did a great job together. Now you deserve a break. And after that, it's time for your rooms.’
