»THE MOON IS JUST THE BEGINNING!«

EPISODE 1SHOOTING STAR

Astrolabius Winter had never been so excited in all his life. He had been awake since the early hours of the morning and lay restlessly in his bed. Sleep was completely out of the question. He had been looking forward to this day for weeks. Today he would move to the moon with his parents and his little sister! As it was still dark, Astrolabius could see the moon clearly. The time had finally come when he would soon be living up there! He could remember how happy he had been when he had first found out about the move a few weeks ago.

His father Marvin was coming home from work, while his mother Lilly was in the kitchen preparing dinner. Astrolabius and his sister Claire were playing with the little space station he had got for his birthday.

Marvin sat down at the table, called everyone over and said happily, "My amazing family, I have a big surprise to announce! The preparations are finally complete, and soon I won't have to work on the Lunar Station without you! Pack your bags, we're moving to the moon!"

Astrolabius was completely surprised and couldn't believe it. He had loved the moon since he was a child. He had often spent nights staring at the sky, imagining what it would be like up there. When his father came home briefly between the many weeks of building the Lunar Station, he would tell Astro what he had been working on. Sometimes it sounded terribly exhausting to Astrolabius. But then his father would tell him how much fun it could be. Astrolabius enjoyed listening to him and could listen for hours on end.

Astro’s room was full of things from space. He had glowing star wallpaper, a miniature rocket and so many toy astronauts that he could hardly count them all. Even his bed was shaped like a rocket. Sometimes, when he couldn't fall asleep, he would take his rocket bed and fly off in his mind to galaxies far, far away and have many exciting adventures.

Of course, he couldn't take all his things with him to the Lunar Station. His father told him that there was only room for one suitcase per passenger in the rocket to the moon, so he would have to choose carefully. Astrolabius thought out aloud: "What do you need on the moon?"

He spread out all his toys on the bed and reached for his favourite astronaut in the white spacesuit.

"You're definitely coming with me! I'll totally need an astronaut on the moon." After Astro had packed everything that he could take, he felt a little sad: "I'd love to take you all with me, but don't worry, you'll soon have a nice new home.

Astro's home was already empty, except for a few pieces of furniture. Astrolabius gave his remaining toys to his best friend Emil, where they were in good hands. Of course he would miss his old school, here on Alpha Prime, and his friends, but the moon was waiting for him.

At last, he heard some noises in the kitchen. Astrolabius jumped out of bed and ran down the stairs, excited and overjoyed. He leapt the last three steps in one bound, hit the floor with a loud thud and stumbled into the kitchen, laughing. His father was sitting sleepily at the table reading the newspaper, which he dropped in shock at the sound of the impact.

"Well, my little Astro, you're really excited!"

"Yes, I am! When are we leaving, dad?" asked Astrolabius impatiently.

"We're leaving in a few minutes!"

The Winter family eventually made their way to the launch site. The rocket was so big that Astrolabius had to tilt his head far back to see all the way to the top. It was even more beautiful than the photos that his dad had shown him.

They took a lift to the entrance of the rocket, and when they were standing right in front of it, his father asked: "Have I promised you too much, Astro?" Astrolabius could only shake his head, speechless. He had been looking forward to this moment for weeks, and now it was finally happening! The airlocks opened with a loud hiss. A friendly astronaut showed the family to their cabin. The compartment had two benches facing each other and, to Astro's delight, a huge round window. This meant he could watch the launch, the flight, everything, very closely.

The astronaut asked the family members to put on their spacesuits as they were about to leave. Astro had been allowed to try his on at home and he felt like a real astronaut in it. He would have loved to have run around in it all day, but his father didn't want it to get damaged. But now the moment had come. He was finally sitting in the rocket, wearing his space suit!

The minutes passed and Astrolabius shifted nervously in his seat, he could hardly wait. Then, finally, the countdown.

"10 ... 9 ... 8 ...",

he held his breath in the meantime.

"7 ... 6 ... 5 ...",

his little sister, who was sitting next to him, grabbed his hand.

»"4 ... 3 ... 2 ...",

he squeezed her hand.

"1 ... Go!"

The rocket lifted off and Astrolabius and his family were pushed into their seats. They shot up into the sky, and the world below them grew smaller and smaller, until only patches of green and blue and long veils of white cloud could be seen. Astro's father waved from the window and said, "Say goodbye to Alpha Prime. The moon is calling!"

As the rocket left the atmosphere, it became very quiet. Astro had never seen anything so beautiful. His father explained the route to the family once again: "As you all know, our first destination is the space station Orbit Alpha. From there we'll go to the moon."«

Orbit Alpha, how those two words sounded. Like an adventure, like fun, like astronauts and space! Orbit Alpha was like a big airport, an airport floating in space. From there it was only a stone's throw to the moon. The family first had to go through check-in and all the other transfer procedures, which was particularly difficult for Astrolabius and Claire. They were bursting with curiosity and could barely wait.
